Well, I guess the whole women situation sucked, since there was a porn theatre where daisy dukes used to be

There were wing eating contests at Wings N More on Texas, along with keg parties in the parking lot.

It was awesome. Now granted, I was only 8 and 9 when I lived there in the 80s...but I gotta say, I rocked the 4th and 5th grades.

Between 87 and 90, we had huge parties at apartment complexes and the cops never came to break them up like they do now.

Of course, now I support them breaking up parties.

The early 80's weren't too bad in CS. The traffic was horrible even then.

Almost everyone in college could drink back then (18 & up), so cops weren't really a problem.

The south border of town was basically Southwest Parkway.

You could get coupons for $.25 pitchers of beer out of the Peoplebook and get plastered on $2.00 at Northgate.

There was one bar I guess in what is now the Lack's shopping center that used to offer $.05 beers - a roll of nickels and you were set.

The Hall of Fame was still for losers.

Football was good.

You could eat all weekend at Archie's $.39 Hamburgers for around $5.00.

there were hot chix in the 80's. you could get into bars even if you were in h.s. every once in a while a hot college girl would be too drunk to notice you were in h.s.

I was in elementary school back then. The one thing that sticks out in my memory is the area from 2818 all the way to Welborn was just pasture and charlet cattle. The koppe bridge restaurant was a feed store. It still smells the same as it did back then.

In the 80's and partway through the 90's downtown Bryan was a ghost town. There was the courthouse and the library and not too much else. College Station was pretty much the same as it was but smaller. We had on-campus Bonfire, something I don't expect to live long enough to see.

Ole Army Lou threw keg parties for the fish during FOW week, and when you were real hungry the best pizza was Chanello's(sarcasm), but with the coupon book you could bogo a ham sandwich at Danver's, go to the salad bar and add your cheese and live large. Gatti's, Skagg's Alpha Beta, the roller rink and Schlotsky's in that old gas staion, Momma Pizza, and Mothers in Downtown Bryan. Fajita meat was given to you from the butcher instead of $5/lb. I guess the good times are really over for good.

This. And I remember University before it was all built up and still had forests around it...

Northgate was populated by Wranglers- and boot-clad cowboys who drove pickup trucks. Female students were called bowheads because the style was to pull your hair back and secure it with a huge grosgrain ribbon/bow. Girls also wore these one-piece rayon jumpsuits that usually had a small floral pattern. The Chicken was exactly the same, but without the ATM machine.

It was great. There were plenty of women, although it seemed that somedays you walked across campus and saw only 10's and other days they were all 2's. Everyone could get into bars and drinks. The Chicken was only the one room, they had not taken over the bar next door and knocked a hole in the wall yet. You could go there and for $1 get a beer and a game of pool. 65 cent longnecks and 35 cents for a game of pool. They had a big wheel of cheese and a cracker barrel by the bar and everyone could snack for free.

The Cowhop was still at Northgate and had great burgers and you could go to Youngblood's in Bryan which I think is no Ozona's or something and get a chicken fried steak that not only hung over the side of the plate, but was actually tender and hand-battered.

You could drive through campus and park close to the dorms. Everyone said "Howdy", not just the ocassional C.T. and we stuck by our team and coach even when we were outscored, which was often.

Sneaky Pete played at Mr. Gatti's on Saturdays and they had a very good buffett. While it seemed to rain at least once a week, it did not seem nearly as humid as it is now.

All of the West Campus was parking lot and you did not need shuttle buses to get around campus. Basketball was played at G Rollie and it was a great home court advantage.

Like all Ags, past, present and future. The best years for College Station and A&M will always be the four that I was there.

I still miss the Cowhop!

cowhop 1 or cowhop 2...the expansion?

Bottle cap alley was just an alley full of bottle caps...because that's where they dumped them...

The Flying Tomato was the best italian place in town

Mama's Pizza was a close second.

The ped bridge wasn't falling down yet, you could stand over a train as it went by and feel the heat from the exhaust fans.

Texas Avenue was 3 lanes wide in most places

Jersey Street existed.

The feeder roads were all bi-directional.

even with smaller unengineered traffic, it moved.

KORA was still the best station in town

Bonfire was built and burned in a much more convienient location

Tom's and Beetle's were tough to decide between

Wal*Mart hadn't left, and crippled Manor East Mall yet.

There were more unpaved county roads.

Jose's hadn't burned down the first time...yet

There was no good way to drive to Houston...the light at Hempstead meant hell until you got to wherever you were headed.

The Student population was still pretty small, and left twice a year.

All of the old dorms were still standing...
