Conquer the Coast & the Toughest 18 Miles in Texas Under the Harbor bridge, Corpus Christi. 7 a.m. 65-mile course around the bay, 25-mile course down Ocean Drive and back. $25 by Sept. 1, then $35. Sponsored by Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Foundation to benefit Texas A&M Corpus Christi Athletic Dept. & the Chamber. The ride will take you through several quaint beach towns; over the Harbor Bridge, a 139-foot climb; and two challengng causeways that transverse Nueces Bay and Red Fish Bay. You will get a breather when you ride the ferry across the Corpus Christi ship Channel to Port Aransas. If you are up to the challenge, there will be an 18-mile time trial that has been dubbed "the toughest 18 miles in Texas" due to the close proximity to the Gulf of Mexico, the tropical conditions, and the high wind speeds. The course finishes over the Laguna Madre via the JFK Causeway, through Corpus Christi Naval Air Station, and down the most prestigious ocean view drive in Texas.
