3rd meet of the year folks and as the season progresses we will learn more and more about this squad. First indoor rankings will be published Monday and the more meets that pile up, the more chances we get to see the complete squad and the top runners in their best events.
Please forgive me if Pat Henry fools me once more, HOWEVER, tomorrow we shall see two NCAA silver medalists Jaqualon Scott and Sam Whitmarsh make their season debuts in their primary events. Scott in the 60 hurdles and Whitmarsh in the 800. Both are national title contenders and both pivotal pieces to this years team and a national team title opportunity. On the women's side we will see Russian multi athlete Sofia Iakushina will make her Aggie debut in the 60 hurdles and a few field events.
There will also be a strong contingent of pro athletes competing: both Aggie pros and non Aggie pros. Olympians Lamara Distin and Bryce Deadmon will be competing. Timara Chapman, Jevon O'Bryant, Connor Schulman, and Semira Killebrew who all competed last year will be competing unattached. Other Olympians Christina Clemons, Christopher Morales Williams, and Elijah Godwin are also on the heat sheets. As well as, pros Amere Lattin, Michael Dickson, Marcellus Moore, Bailey Lear, and Matthew Moorer.
Competing unattached is San Juanita Leal in the 3000. It'll be a great test to see her health. She hasn't raced since September after an injury in cross country. I'm guessing her redshirt will be determined how she looks here. Hopefully she got a medical redshirt for cross country.
As for the Aggies we should see some great races. The women's 200 will feature Camryn Dickson making her debut in an individual race, along with 400 runners Jermaisha Arnold and Latasha Smith stepping down and Jasmine Montgomery. Jaiya Covington will make her season debut in the 60 Hurdles. Kennedy Wade will run her first collegiate 800, so that will be interesting to follow. The race will be competitive and feature Avery Perkins and Maddie Jones. The women's 300 will be fun to follow.
Hossam Hatib is set to run the 400 again. Gavin Champ is set to compete in the triple jump again. There will be a DMR contested, and although the men will have some strong legs, we won't be running our top group out there. But I'm interested to see how Cawthra runs a 1200 and Santorum in the 800 leg. They are both also listed in the mile, hopefully there's a pacer.
It'll be a fun Saturday! Hope you all can make it out there and cheer on our Aggies! Georgia and Houston will bring some speed! Let's see our Aggies take another step forward! I'll have practice with my kids in the morning but will provide updates as soon as I get home! Got a couple kids I've worked with in high school competing in throws! Get out there and cheer our Aggies on! We gotta keep climbing and earn those top 16 spots!
