I'll add that these African runners have these really nice times, but most of them have peaked, and would be an afterthought back in Kenya. Meanwhile, you could, as you say, recruit a really talented HS kid, and actually COACH him, and after 4 years he'll be better than the Kenyan. This mercenary tactic requires all the coaching skills of the Wagner Group.

In other news, your celebrity crush just signed with New Balance.

I hope New Balance works out, but very happy to see her NOT go with Nike. They would just break her, abuse her, and possibly dope her like they've done with so many athletes.

We have a very young team on the girls side and every meet is more experience. Gosh, just the atmosphere, running at this level, with so many other girls, the pressure, etc. will all benefit them in the future.

I am usually an optimist but a realist, too. Even with the reduced competition probably will not finish anywhere close to the top but should be several places higher than last meet. Take it a stride at a time (a play on 'step at a time'!), a meet at a time, and good things will come.

Our 'Valley Girl' not competing is certainly a negative but her time will come!
