Really brilliant by Hintz to pass that back to Johnny instead of shooting. Such composure.

We need to be praying to any and every hockey god that Miro only sprained his knee, will miss the four nations tournament and be back in a month. The Stars trade deadline business just got sped up I'm afraid.

Stone was trying to buy a tripping call with a flop that turned into a dirty hit.....

100%. He wasnt't trying to injure Miro, but he was absolutely trying to draw a penalty, and in that process took out perhaps our most important player. I am extremely worried, as you can tell lol.

Miro week to week. Seeing a specialist after a MRI can't be a good sign .

I'd guess that means he has ligament damage, but not necessarily a ton ACL. I feel like it would be pretty straight forward if it were a torn ACL. On the other hand, if he tore it all maybe he'd want to see a specialist too. Either way, it ain't good.

Probably sped up the trade deadline for us too. Going to have to get real about getting someone else who's an impact player in.

Never want to say losing one player wrecks the season but this ain't good.

The specialist could be as simple as best recovery/rehab process. Depending on the extent of the injury, he may only miss a handful of games (there are only 5 until the 4Nations).

In reality, I suspect it's a surgery now vs. rehab and offseason surgery determination. Today's week-to-week designation seems like best case scenario because they don't know definitively that he's not out for the year yet.

Will probably get news after tomorrow morning's skate. Fingers crossed. Miro out is probably the worst hit this team could take.

Also,I saw in IG a picture of Mason Marchment skating with a bubble helmet. I hope he comes back in the lineup soon.

They said the plan is to get him in the lineup before the break. Doesn't sound like Friday is realistic, but Sunday might be on the table.

Ahh hell, I thought I clicked on rangers thread. I'd give $15.50 to see him suit up for the leafs

Pete said on The Ticket it's not expected to be year ending. There will be surgery, the question is the extent of the surgery.

So torn other ligaments but not the important ones. Well that's not horrible.

Said the specialist is another dr. in New York and it's essentially a second opinion. Based on the doctors in Dallas, they're optimistic this is not season ending but likely will require surgery. It should have a relatively small recovery time, but he did mention that could still mean 8-12 weeks.

Miro's health is most important, obviously, but hearing it's likely not season ending the question of LTIR comes next. If his recovery time is closer to 12 weeks, the Stars could put Seguin & Miro on LTIR. That gives them a staggering $18 million in cap space.

For those unaware, these guys put together a pretty good podcast almost every day. Post game shows and then generally one show in between games. I enjoy listening in the way to and from work.

I listen to it pretty regularly. Hard to believe there are enough paying subscribers (I don't pay) and listeners to pay salaries, but it is good content

What does this board think about the idea of adding Seth Jones from Chicago? I think it's risky, and Chicago would have to retain some serious salary (im talking darn near half of his remaining contract), but I think he would fit into these team pretty well.

I am just doing some searching on guys that might be available or on teams that would be willing to move guys given the right deal. I for one am watching the Canucks big time, and the Stars are going to have a PLETHORA of cap space at the deadline and contracts are coming the books in the summer. The 4 Nations tournament might actually be a good time for the front office to do some serious evaluation.

Random PSA: if anyone wants a 4 nations face off jersey but doesn't want to spend $500 on the "authentic" line, Hangar Hockey has limited numbers of the premium fanatics jerseys with player names for about half.

Have not seen those available through any other outlets.

I'm interested in Jones, but only if Chicago eats about $3M and doesn't want too much back. He's still solid, except for zone entry defense where he stinks. You could pair him with Esa or Lyubushkin and he could be very effective.

I personally like the idea of getting both Brock Nelson and Marcus Petterson for Seguin's LTIR. If Miro's is on the table, I could see also going after Jones.

Nill got Calgary or somebody to take half the Tanev money last year, so he has a way of figuring these things out.

If Nill is calling you, you're about to get fleeced.

Jim Nill said Miro's appointment with the specialist isn't until Monday (killing me smalls!). Surgery isn't inevitable, the specialist will know, but either way he said he's confident Miro will be back BEFORE the playoffs. That's all well and good, but if he's only going to play a few games, I'd much rather them pull a Vegas/Stone since that's apparently perfectly within the rules.

It seems like we are going to be in a great position at the trade deadline as long as ownership isn't cheap and gives the green light.

With Seggy's LTIR money, and potentially now Miro's, we were always going to have cap space for this year, but be hamstrung by lack of space in the future given new deals that are going to be required for our own guys. Thankfully the NHL just released salary cap numbers for the next three years and they are going up significantly so now there is certainty on what those numbers are and potentially gives us more flexibility to sign guys now who aren't on expiring deals.

The current cap is $88MM and going to $95.5MM next year, followed by $104MM and $113.5MM the following two seasons.

We're in really good shape moving forward. Bourque and Johnston need new deals this offseason, but Benn, Duchene, Dadonov, Steel, and Blackwell all come of the books. You may bring back Benn, but it will be for a lot cheaper. Duchene is the only one that would get a significant bump, but I'm not even sure it will actually be significant.

Nill has said he wants to go after pending free agents at the deadline, but they have enough flexibility to take on a longer term contract, if they find the right guy.
Tksymm7

Benn is 100% coming back on probably a 2-3 year deal, but I would think less than 5 per year, maybe even lower than that. Would love to have Duchy back on a similar deal as well.

ETA: I agree on what Nill is looking for, although id be kidding myself if I didn't say I would love another truly elite player *cough cough* Elias Pettersson or JT Miller.
Danny Vermin
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Honestly, I want every player you named back. Each of them add alot to this team. Obviously, how the playoffs go will determine if they come back but Steel, Daddy and Blackwell will be fairly cheap while Benn will take a team friendly contract and Duchene just wants to win.
