It's natural at this point regarding Aggie track! It's usually a heat of the moment thing lol! But congrats on your daughters performance! 3 days, 3 800's! That's tough to do! She's showing her consistency and I expect her to drop a crazy time soon! May Texas Relays go well for y'all and she stay healthy and ready for the post season! My top thrower has been hurt and gotten to practice maybe like a single digit number of times since July so let's hope we all stay healthy!

While we're here! I taught one of my new throwers how to hold and throw a shot put the last week in January, threw 41 his first meet and today he eclipsed 50! He's a senior who wanted to try a sport before he graduated and now we're looking on improving and making it to state in 5A because why not! Track is a fun sport lol!

Anyone got the final splits for the 4x400 relays?

I know for the women Tierra opened with 51.4

Opening for the men I think were 45.5 and 45.8 for the A and B relays teams. I remembered Houston opening with 44.9.

The men looked good in the first two legs. They were actually leading Houston. Poor third leg hand off and then did not complete the baton exchange on the last leg

Oh wow that's promising to see! But man those last exchanges were just as bad as the quality of the video lol

Connor schulman has been a coach's dream! From a best of 14.27 in high school to a current nation leading 13.64…WOW!

Who was that sprinter from McNeese who is built like Hershel Walker and Curtis Dickey? Maybe 6'2", 225 - I have no idea, he just looked like an NFL OLB.

Some athlete in the know said she had a health challenge a month ago which was non athletic/training related. She just got back to training last week while team was in Bahamas. She has, I think, another year at least and I don't know whether she ran in enough meets this indoor season to disqualify for a medical redshirt. Nonetheless, she is back to training and may not even be a factor this outdoor season seeing how she missed an entire month of training.

She is listed as a sophomore so she should another 2 or 3 years of eligibility depending on whether she redshirt this season or not

Thanks, and you actually bring up some good points. The girl who won the 800 is a freshman who dropped a 7+ second PR and ran the fastest 6A time in the state this year. She did not run XC. It was too hard for her, lol. Sweet girl - we talked to her a bit. She was beaming, and rightfully so.

My question may be a psychological one as much as anything. Is is better to keep grinding the next few meets and try to shave half a second here and there, or would it be better to focus on the process, cluster a few more times around the PR, and "save" the breakout effort for regionals? Region 3 is absolutely stacked. Sub 2:13 might not get a wild card, but she has to probably get there to give herself a chance. Unfortunately Texas Relays doesn't have an 800...yes, there's a relay, but it's almost impossible to run a PR in a relay. At least she won't get boxed in, though.

It definitely it a psychological one because I'm one hand you want the athlete to be rested both mentally and physically going into district area and regional meets, but you also want them to have confidence and a nice late season PR can provide that! But your daughter is a senior who knows what's at stake! The regional gauntlet is intense and requires a strong mental game! So trust in her ability will be key! She's been running some negative and even splits!

I don't like how there's no 800 at the Texas relays, this would have been a historic race if they ran it!! But for your daughter mental to go out and run under a 2:15 split would be great for her confidence and mojo heading into post season meets!

The freshman from Katy surprised me, that was an unbelievable run and for most times when an underclass men can run like that a lot of it is adrenaline, how will she be able to handle the pressure now will be key, that gets to the younger people! It's different when the target is on your back! I like the kids to have one more big meet this time of year, hopefully a strong PR weekend or just stay consistent and get ready mentally for district area regionals!

I always tell them not be short sighted, the results now matter for about one night, the post season results matter forever! Like Pat Henry says it's about being your best one time! Who can perform when it matters! It's definitely a mental game, so it needs to be a balance of mental confidence and physical confidence (fresh legs)!

Good words. Beating other people is hard, but it is easier than beating yourself. Some of the parents get so upset about race results. They haven't figured out that if winning is important, their child picked a terrible sport. The reward for being the biggest dog on the block is moving to a block with bigger dogs. Being your very best when it matters the very most is all you can do. Some of the parents get incredibly nervous on race day. I just get excited. I hope my athlete feels the same way. Training completely blows; if you don't enjoy race day, find a different hobby.

I will go out of my way to keep my some of my athletes from their parents on meet day! LOL! I want them focused but relaxed and smiling is just as important! You can't force PR's! They come due to training and mental preparedness! PR's are the fruits and labor of what you do during the week! Meet day you go out and have some fun and trust yourself!

Katy has had 3 different girls qualify for the state meet in the 800 in the past 6-7 years with two different ones in the 1600. Katy had a freshman qualify for the state meet in the 800 last year that is not even running the 800 this year. Katy ISD district had 5 girls low 2:16 or faster. 3 of them from Katy, not including the freshman that made state last year.
