After Day 1

The men are in first place thanks to scoring 129 points in diving and two 5th place finish in the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay.

Men - Team Rankings - Through Event 6

1. Texas A&M University 229 2. Auburn University 166
3. University of Tennessee 159 4. University of Florida 138
5. Missouri 126 6. South Carolina, University of, 115
7. Georgia, University of 113 8. University of Alabama 107
9. Kentucky, University of 86 10. Louisiana State University 65

The women had a horrendous day which probably was one of the worst ever and might be hard for them to recover to any where near the top 5.
None of our divers made the finals even though our three divers have been in the top 8 in SEC this season.
Our lead off backstroke leg in the 200 medley relay slipped at the start of the race and we could not recover and finished 11 overall in the race.
The 800 freestyle relay finished 4th but was later disqualified for an early take-off.
Here we are, the Aggie women are in 12th and last place and has now lost any chance of being a top contender while competing at home.
I expect some better performance though for the rest of the week once they put this first day behind them

Women - Team Rankings - Through Event 5

1. Louisiana State University 178 2. University of Florida 150
3. Kentucky, University of 149 4. South Carolina, University of, 142
5. University of Tennessee 136 6. University of Alabama 131
7. Auburn University 119 8. Georgia, University of 107
9. Missouri 105 10. University of Arkansas 97
11. Vanderbilt University 62 12. Texas A&M University 56

Fire the women's coach. And recruit more and better on both sides. We should win everything all the time…

How much credit does women's coaching staff get some credit for recruiting Baylor Nelson from out of state?

LOL...the men get like 9 scholarships and are sitting second in one of the toughest swimming conferences in the country...because of how hard it is to get into A&M, our sports are recruiting with one arm tied behind our back since other SEC schools give away free tuition constantly just to get people to attend their school

Yes they are showing well, mainly thanks to diving, which counts…but making excuses for not winning championships is getting old…hopefully the NIL+ fund will bring more swimmers to ATM, so that instead of just 1 Baylor Nelson we could get 5 like Texas, Cal, Florida, Virginia, etc, etc, great meet thus far just need more….don't get me started on the women. It's pathetic that we haven't gotten rid of that coaching stafff.

I would actually say the opposite is true. Kids in non revenue sports want good schools because they likely aren't going pro, and even if they do it isn't for big money. Look at the schools that have ruled college swimming the last few years, they are all good schools. Same with the schools that finish high in the director's cup each year.

I do think though that a state like Florida has an advantage with bright futures. If an in state kid is already half paid for, that's scholarship money saved for someone else.

And just from the outside, I would bet that the addition of Texas to the league is going to be a great motivator for you all in sports like this. Will be interesting to see what you do about it.

A lot of times, it has nothing to do with what some kids want. I agree, kids absolutely want good schools all day long but not all of these kids' parents are made of money. College costs are off the charts and getting worse.

Now in swimming that may be less of an issue but in other sports it's not.

You nailed it with your second paragraph. Texas A&M can't do that. Florida, Arkansas, LSU, Alabama, etc., can. If a kid is half paid for then that school is working with literally double the scholarship dollars. NIL is our only option to combat this.

It will be the tu vs Florida show annually when tu arrives. Team championship Aggie swimming will become an increasingly distant memory.

Very disappointing performance by the women.

Yes…the women's team is a joke…need to fire the coach. He doesn't recruit anymore.

Not so much Bultman's fault. The DQ of the first relay really screwed us. It's a young team - gonna take some time to catch up

Agree. Check out of state tuition at A&M to see why the tamu roster is full of Texas kids. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty of HS swim talent in Texas, but even with a half scholarship, a OOS kid islikely still better off going elsewhere.
Aceswimmer09
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Did this recently change….he used to pull major talent, globally. Coach has gotten old and lazy on the recruiting front….how does Texas do it? Time to move on, and of course the young swimmers will need to develop l…problem is they weren't highly recruited…so the highly recruited ones will keep developing right along side and we will keep sinking further and further
FriskyGardenGnome

It's obviously more complex than just OOS tuition, but that's a major factor. Perhaps some are able to overlook costs to train at a place with literally decades of blue blood swim history? Ags don't have that, not even close.

I don't know the answer, but it's a discussion worth having. Firing is easy, but who do you want as head coach?

The fact is that we have drop from top 3/4 nationally and top1/2 in SEC to unranked nationally and to the bottom in the SEC.

I noted the following over the years

1. We traditionally relied on a very strong IM and breaststroke group and this no longer exist.
2. We were very strong in the relays, always in the top 8 nationally. We can barely make the top 16 to score nationally in the relays now
3. We relied heavily on international swimmers as our core contributors to the team scores
4. We now have less international swimmers and have recruited more in Texas.
5. We always recruited two or three top 20-30 recruits in the country. This no longer happens
6. I feel we don't explore the transfer portal much

Whatever the reason for the demise maybe a combination of things but what we need now is how we can build again quickly to be a force to reckon. it is so sad to the follow the sport now with the Aggies not being a factor anymore
