I'm fine with taking a risk on a KID like this. He's a great skater, puck mover, shooter, and a right shot (Klinger light). We'll teach him how to play defense because that's what we do best. I'll also give Nil some credit and benefit of the doubt; he, the scouting department, and the front office have been pretty stinking good the last 5 years.

Im not really sure what the pairings will be though. I want Miro on his left side, badly. But are you really going to give a 22 year old kid 1st pairing minutes with him (doubt)? Hakanpaa (love him but no). I expect the 6 men to be Miro, Suter (barf), Hakanpaa, Harley, Miller and Lundkvist, but no clue who's paired with who.

Missing Lindell. Assume he would be paired with Miro on the top line, no?

My fault, I'm dumb. When I was typing that out I had a feeling I was missing someone! That complicates things a ton too because Lindell is 100% in the top 4. Are they trying to squeeze/push Harley?

With this trade for Lundkvist I get the feeling that the coaching staff really wants to pair Miro with a right handed shot in order to get him on his natural left side. We now have three right handed shots in Hakanpaa, Lundkvist, Miller and four left handed shots in Miro, Suter, Lindell and Harley.

Was just about to post this. Surely it would mean greater availability to the fans. BSSW is one of the only reasons I have stuck with DirecTV this long.

Robertson won't be at the start of training camp. With a new coaching staff, that's really gonna hurt.

I am not too worried about this situation. Yes, it would be better if he was going to be at the start of camp. But he's not going anywhere. No one is touching him with a 10' pole except the Stars because it would cost a team something like three or four first round picks to pry him loose. That being said, the Stars are going to have to cut some guys loose here pretty quick. I think Robo wants a minimum of 7 million per year, and we do not have that space currently. Doby, Faksa, and maybe even someone like Gurianov will have to go, although getting rid of Doby would open up over 3 million in cap by itself. I personally would love to see Faksa gone too so it opens up a spot for Johnston or Dellandrea at C full time.

I'm not concerned he won't be a Star next season, but it sure would be nice to have our leading goal scorer at camp when a new coaching staff is implementing a new system.

We're like 2 weeks until we have actual regular season hockey going.

I think we're at like 22 or 23 days until the opener.

You are correct. I thought the 8th was the opener but it is preseason. We open @Nash on the 13th so 20 days

This camp is going to be extremely interesting. We have A TON of talent fighting for spots in the "bottom 6" right now, plus a bunch of guys fighting for spots on the blueline. I am pumped for this season and the future of our franchise!

Been listening to a few podcasts about how Traverse City went and what camp is looking like, and I want to know who y'all think the opening day forwards and d men will be. I have been trying to come up with a list of guys and what positions they'll be in, but have really struggled. Outside of maybe the top 6, I've got no clue, then again I really don't want to see Seguin and Benn play together anymore. I'd rather have Benn play third line C with Gurionov on the RW. So the for sure guys are:

Forwards:
Robo-Hintz-Pavs
Marchment-Seguin-Peterson (probably?)
Benn-Gurionov
Faksa-Glendening

The only other forward I feel really confident in making the roster but don't know where he'll play is Dellandrea. I think he's all but penciled in. This also brings up how much I'd like to see Faksa not here anymore. He's pretty much a waste of space. We have three+ guys who could do his job just as well if not better for a fraction of the price (Johnston, Dellandrea, Karlstrom, Bourque etc.). So essentially we have one, maybe two spots up for grabs. I would lean Tufte for that last spot right now.

Hintz, Marchment and Gurionov have been skating together at camp, and I gotta say that I really like it. They're big, fast and capable of being a high scoring line. If that line works, you still have Pavelski, Robertson, and Seguin to spread some offense throughout another couple of lines.

Benn, Faksa and Peterson have been skating together. I wouldn't necessarily expect that one to stick, but could make for an intriguing 2-way line.

Also of note: Glendenning tested as the "fittest" player at the start if camp. Pretty darn impressive for a 33 year old.

That's a very interesting line. I'm curious if that's just because Robertson isn't in camp.

I just want two of the youngins to make the team outta camp. Add some real speed and excitement to the 4th line and generate some chemistry between them

I really like the thought of Marchment, Hintz and Gurianov on the same line. That is fast, physical and skilled. Gurianov just has to get his head on (Bones did absolutely nothing to help him either). As good as Robo and Pavs are, I've always thought that they neutralized Hintz's speed. Seguin, Robo and Pavs also sounds incredibly interesting because maybe Robo and Pavs can jump start Seguin a bit.

Hooray for stars hockey, even if is preseason! Good on them for streaming it. I've long wished for a better social media presence from the stars. So many other teams push out fun content on YouTube and I think the Stars average a video or two a year.

My wife was telling me she saw a rumor that he was wanting 8 for 11. She couldn't remember where she saw that on twitter but she swears those are the numbers she saw.

If that's what he's starting out at, I'm not sure a deal can be reached with our current cap space. Unless we move some people out and clear some out.

11 years is kinda crazy. If I were Robos agent I would be encouraging him to take a bridge deal at around 3x7. Robertson is 23, so this would take him to his age 26 season, Benn would be off the books, and the cap is likely going to increase more. He could really cash in after the bridge deal for 6-8 years at maybe 9-10+ per year.

I hope they want him bad enough to jettison someone lower in the ranks. I am very anxious and our daughter plays hockey and loves Robo so I would like to be able to not have to spend $165 on a new team jersey for her next birthday haha!

I agree the bridge deal is the most reasonable and that is the news I was hoping we would hear last week.

I have faith that they will come to a deal, but dang, I was really hoping it would be more reasonable than 11 years.

I am also shocked we haven't jettisoned Doby yet. I don't even care if we have to send picks with him. He needs to be gone. Maybe they're trying to play him in the preseason to let teams know he's healthy.

Last checked, I believe we are down 2-0 in the second intermission.

The d-men are activating a lot more than past seasons down the boards to try and win pucks back in the offensive zone. Other than that it's hard to tell any other scheme changes with the lack of playing time and skill on the ice.

Dobby apparently has not looked good.

I've been flipping back and forth between the stars and cowboys so have missed both goals

Johnston has looked good. And based on everything I've heard and read, he's the most likely young gun to stick this season. I bet he starts the season in Dallas and gets the first 9 games. After that, they have to send him down or he stays. My gut says he sticks.

I get the Faksa "hate", but he's a top-25 face-off guy in the league (22nd last year, 12th two years ago) and I think he's good on the penalty kill. He certainly hasn't been an offensive threat lately, but he's proven he's capable of 30 point seasons before the entire team forgot how to score.

Another night, another Stars preseason game! Sounds like Blummel is really making a good impression and push to make the roster. Stankoven has also been dynamite, although I give him a slim chance of make the roster this year.
