She doesn't look invincible anymore but keep in mind she had a slow start to the season. She had a foot injury which delayed her start then was shut down for a bit with COVID.

Yes Hodgkinson trained hard for this event and had lots of races under her belt (and was ranked #1 in the world bc of it). Athing didn't have the races she needed to feel comfortable, but did find a way somehow. I saw strain on her face at nationals that I wasn't used to seeing, and this race she showed the same. Let's see what she does the rest of the season. Amazing that she can have limited training and still just refuses to lose. I think she may be one of my favorite athletes in the last 10 years.

This! Athing has been delayed with some setbacks and hasn't ran as much this season but she continues to win and puts up impressive numbers which is incredible.

I'd say definitely the injury and covid. It's why she hasn't really raced at all in 2022. She's had no build up
