Tough for Shiffrin. Makes you wonder how much is in her head because of her dad vs. maybe she's just slipped a bit with age, the body is just not responding like she's used to, and now it's in her head and she's pressing. She's only 26, but there are a lot of miles on those tires already since she was so good at such a young age. And while women hit puberty before men, they also tend to age out of their peak earlier too. And this sport isn't exactly easy on the body

Or maybe it's just all one big fluky bad week, but when you look at her world cup and world championship results, this is a 2-3 year slip

I really questioned their final stone. Seems the better play would have been to curl around and knock out the GB stone for 2. But I guess that's why I'm in a recliner and not with a broom.

Is there any doubt that this was the worst Olympics in the modern era?
Russian cheating tarnished the figure skating events
California girl wins 3 medals for communist China
Terrible time zone and social media make for a terrible viewing experience where anything interesting is known before it airs on TV
NBC builds up Shifferin and Shaun White who win a total of 0 medals
No NHL players and mens hockey doesn't even make the semi's
Limited fans in stands
Terrible experience for athletes in Covid isolation
minimal memorable moments (Jacobellis events were 2 of a limited list)
From someone who loves the Olympics, this has been a tough watch.

Can't argue with any of those. It's been bad. One of my old favorites was speed skating (both forms), and it has declined as well. Curling and snowboard cross have really been the only events I've enjoyed. This is the olympics china, the IOC, and NBC deserve. Ratings down 50%+ across the board from 2018 and time zone can't be an excuse

We usually watch every event possible. Didn't watch a minute of the genocide olympics. It just didn't feel ok.

Yeah, I feel a little guilty for watching at all. Just too much of a sports junkie in somewhat of a black hole time of year for sports. I've at least sworn off watching a second of the opening or closing ceremonies, and have watched about 50% less of the actual events than I normally would have. But honestly, that's just partly because it sucked so bad. It was easier to avoid

Definitely been a rough one. I'm just so tired of 3 straight Olympics in Asia. I know its because those countries were willing to foot the ridiculous bill, but they've got to be able to spread it out more.

The one thing that has really irked me is the Cali girl skiing for China and what sure seems like a ton of positive publicity for it. Sure she said she wants to be a role model, but she's probably getting paid a really fat pay check to be over there for them. If you want to make to take a somewhat extreme view, given all the human rights violations China has been allegedly committing, this would be a close equivalent of someone from the US deciding to compete for Nazi Germany in the 1936 Olympics

Being a winter Olympian (even multiple medal winner) in the US is two weeks of fame and then going on dancing with the stars season 38 with CJ McCollum and Jacoby Jones. You can't monetize it that much.

In China she'll be a multimillionaire. She's getting paid. Its easy to say what choice you'd make when the choice isn't there for you. But in the face of temptation, who knows what you'd do.

The opening and closing ceremonies relied too much on the LED screens on the floor. Needed more practical props like the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London ceremony, or this past Super Bowl halftime.
