Always been that way. People like watching cute girls in tight fitting leotards. Just a little weird with how young they are

I definitely feel track is growing at least! Young stars like McLaughlin, Mu, Knighton, and Lyles will only help it grow more!!! It's trending up, but ugh we have to beat swimming!

Curiosity question. Does anyone know what Fred Kerley's younger brother Mylik is doing these days? Is he running professionally? If I remember correctly, he was somewhere around 44.5 in the 400 himself at A&M

He ran at the US Championships in 2019 and just missed the finals, and ran a few races in 2020 before not racing in 2021 at all! I think he's pursuing music right now as well! Not sure about track...

Thanks for these stats that is incredible!! I really hope we land one of Sophia Gorriaran or Roisin Willis, two incoming senior 800 runners who are on the same pace as Athing Mu was in high school! Either or would be huge for our program and pair well with Bailey Goggans! Sam Whitmarsh was expected to breakout last season after opening with a 1:50 then getting injured! Hopefully he can recover and have an impact next season! If Allon Clay is healthy and has a much more promising sophomore year, our 800 group can be by far one of the best in the nation!

Surely we get enough SEC money these days to add women's gymnastics and men's soccer.

Agreed, the (lack of) men's soccer has always bothered me.

Yes, swimming is hard for me to watch. Not natural for our species! Thanks for info on Mylik. He seemed to have lots of potential but maybe not quite as dedicated? I have particularly followed the Kerleys because I grew up in Thorndale (about a thousand people) 12 miles from Taylor. Taylor was about 10,000 back then so that's where we went in HS to party !

Neither are SEC sports which also frustrates me. I played club soccer at A&M for 4 years and the head coach at the time was always trying to push to have a varsity program that would compete in Conference USA. Both Kentucky and South Carolina currently do this.

Isn't Gynmastics an SEC Sport, just one that we choose not to field? I've heard that it is prohibitively expensive at least somewhat due to the required liability. I do wish we'd carry it as it seems pretty popular in the South and Houston is a massive recruiting hub, perhaps the epicenter.

On men's soccer, no-brainer add for me personally but doubt it happens unless there are massive changes to Title IX.

I honestly just wish football were exempted since it carries everyone else...

Men's soccer is not an SEC sport, but gymnastics is with currently eight schools participating. I don't know much about title IV, but I thought maybe adding these two teams might balance out.

Byrne wanted to add women's bowling over gymnastics primarily because of the extreme expense of gymnastics.

Ignoring title IX, you also have the fact that these two sports will probably not be profitable. I'm not saying money is everything nor should drive these decisions. But you have to acknowledge that they won't be bringing in more money, but taking some from other sports.

Thanks to Jackie Sherrill.

Exactly. Any new sport we could possibly add takes away money from football. Period. Since football pays the bills at like 80%+ of schools I wish the 85 schollys were discounted in some manner, ideally excluded completely but perhaps offset by actual dollars to other programs or something? Anyway, it won't happen so doesn't really matter.

I do have a feeling that NIL coupled with the recent SCOTUS ruling are going to blow this racket up though. Maybe not completely but things are going to look very different sooner rather than later. The NCAA as we know it is not long for this world.

Honestly, it's probably not about taking away from football, it's about taking away from womens soccer, softball, golf, track, everything. As you said, football funds all these sports, with some exceptions. I highly doubt they'd just take the $x needed from football. It'd be split across the board.

Good point. The key here is there is not additional money from any new sport; in fact quite the opposite. No matter what it is it would lose money. Money will have to come from the cash cow or one of the already subsidized sports.

The cost of running a men's DI soccer program at A&M would be a affected by the fact that there are only a handful of such programs west of the Mississippi. Travel costs would be higher than management might care to spend.

That is complete bull****! At least Tyra can now focus on the long jump.

I was hoping it wouldn't end this way, but I feared it! It's such a tragic thing for track and field! It's really pathetic. I hope some girls scratch and she can move up, but it's honestly a horrible thing to endure. The world rankings are slowly getting exposed for its bias and its beginning to show! It really hurts for Tyra who could've easily finished in the top 8 possibly close to the medal stand at this Olympics! The IAAF should be ashamed of itself!

This is a tragedy, but I say she breaks 23 in the long jump! And comes back next season and breaks the NCAA Record in the Heptathlon, Long Jump, and High Jump! Her progression through college has been amazing! With NIL in effect i will send her money to come back and compete for us

Hopefully lots of 19-23 year old dominate the Olympics and they redue the ranking system

We can put a patch on Brandon Miller's jersey with a Aggie Track Texags thread logo.

Well maybe Mu should just stick to the 800m.

World Athletics/IAAF has 2 goals - protect the pros, but the other is to add "value" of their meets. They're incentivized to make their meets more important and de-value other meets.

Ok, well their real goal is to make money, but they can must do through the above.
