Big personalities like that grow the sport. Lyles has it too but he's toned it back since he's not in top form

Miller needed to be near the top! He's not used to running from the back of the pack! A heck of a season for the young lion! He's coming back and getting his two gold medals next season!
That race was making me nervous with how congested they were running. The older guys showed there strength at the end there, especially with tired legs. Such a damn good season for Miller! Time for him to rest up and get mentally and physically ready for another great year.taylorswift13 said:

I've been a track and field fan for (many) years. First world record I personally witnessed was ACU (ACC) 440 yd relay in 40.2 at Texas Relays in 1957 with Bobby Morrow anchoring. They broke their own record several times including at least one sub 40 time.

Yup he's going to have a crazy Bowerman type year! I can see him going 1:45 indoors and 1:42 outdoors! As well as running on the relay! He's a competitor who will learn and bounce back! He'll have some good seasons before the 2024 cycle!

I wish Miller took the Jewett approach. At NCAA both went out 50.9x and finished under 1:45. Tonight Jewett went out 51.11 and faded some but finaled. Miller went out 53.16 and didn't final.
He's not used to running in a field as good as him and struggled both races. Maybe his tank was empty, but front running (and maybe qualifying on time) was a better chance.

Cool seeing Teahna Daniels make the team in the 100m, even though she went to that other school. I remember her parents sitting in front of me at Gilliam Indoor during her freshmen year. They were so nervous they handed me their phone to record the 60m race. She ended up running fast enough to get a NCAA qual time.

Her personal best for the 800m would have placed 7th at the 2016 Olympics while her 400m personal best would have placed 3rd in 2016.
Her best race is the 800m. She ran the 400 at the NCAA meet because it benefitted the team more.

That makes sense at NCAA nationals because it helped the team. Im asking about the Olympic trials where her personal best times rank higher in the 400 than the 800.
So basically, why is the 800m considered her better race when she could easily qualify in the 400m and potentially medal. Whirl she would have to better her personal best in the 800 July a large margin to get close to medaling.

1. She just finished a long college season and big NCAA meet. Getting a week of rest puts her in the best position to perform her best. Our 800m freshman Brandon Miller got second in NCAA's a week ago with a 1:44.97. Tonight in the 800m semi-finals he finished second to last in 1:47.65 and failed to final. The fastest time was only 1:46.00. The quick turnaround from major meet to major meet is a real issue.
2. Times are nice and good times occur when conditions are right, but track is about getting to the finish line first. Looking at times from a particular race on a particular day and comparing to another race on a different day in a different place in different conditions is a fool's errand. Wind, temperature, humidity, the track, the starter, tactics, schedule and competition all impact performance marks.
3. She only ran 1 outdoor 800 this year (April 17) and it ranks #3 in the world this year. She ran 6 outdoor 400's (May14-Jun12) and her best ranks #4 in the world this year.

Fair enough. Still say that if you are on tired legs, running three 800s even with another week off is harder than running 3 400s. Exactly like what happened to Miller today.
Also, she was never even challenged in the 400 outdoor this year and always ran the last 100m alone.
With the 400m you stay in one lane and dont have to fight traffic. Whenever you have to fight around other runners it's adds a different dynamic. For examples look at the Miller in the men's 800 at the trial and Athing in the indoor 400m.

I think Cherry looks very good to qualify. Doesn't appear to have had to run too hard through the rounds.
