NASCAR is WWE on wheels.

And I've never understood this notion. Racing is so unpredictable I don't see how it can be compared to WWE. Sure there's the occasional mystery caution and an abundance of rules, but same can be said for IndyCar. I think it was Texas in 2016 when all but 4 cars were lapped and after a caution IndyCar put everyone on the lead lap without a lucky dog or wave around.

I was mainly talking about the tough-guy posing by the drivers, pit crews, etc.

Ah I misunderstood, thought you were talking about the entertainment aspect and accusations of fixing. There's definitely some of that "tough guy" attitude but that's the culture stemming from how the sport was created.

They have to come up with a better solution than restrictor plates for Daytona and Talladega. They've been running those things way too long.

Finally got caught up. Man, Newgarden just had the setup perfect. There was great racing all around, and some pretty great driving in Toronto too. Not sure what the previous poster meant by a boring race watching Pagenaud pull away.

Have to give Marco a little credit on that first accident there in Toronto. Kept his foot in it, did a 360 and kept going.

Sage...bro....smh...I want you to succeed so bad, but you really didn't help yourself Saturday. Woof.

You enjoyed watching Pagenaud lead 80 of 85 laps? I'm a Penske fan and even thought the racing was boring. Dixon seemed faster and couldn't pass him because of the difficulty of driving on a street course.

My main reason for saying it was boring was the poster above me who said the tracks are cooler in IndyCar. While they may be more unique, they don't provide as good of racing as in NASCAR in my opinion, making them less cool. Even Iowa was dominated by one driver and didn't provide much excitement.

I guess if you only watch the battle for the lead, some races can be boring. There was passing and racing all throughout the pack at both:

If you prefer NASCAR, that's cool man. I used to watch it, but all the rule changes from the Chase onward lost me. I like the purity of racing in IndyCar, and to others that can be boring, I guess. I don't get the need to disparage either series or F1 or Sports Cars. We're all too 'niche' already as it is to be elitist towards each other, IMO.

(Edit: Though admittedly it's been a rough past couple of years for F1 in terms of interesting racing, with a few bright spots sprinkled in).

Both IndyCar and NASCAR telecasts have gotten heat lately for not showing enough battles throughout the field, so that could be the issue there. There's definitely passing in both, but I think it's obvious there's quite a bit more in NASCAR, but that's due to the nature of the sport, the safer cars, and the oval tracks. (The picture you included is on the first lap after a restart so I don't think it's a fair visual but I get your point.)

I agree the points format in NASCAR isn't great, but my stance of the series being more boring was focused on the amount of passing and close quarter racing, not the championship format. Didn't mean to come across as disparaging a series, that's why I tried to start one of my other posts with that I'm a fan of both series.

And yeah, F1 is rough right now

For real.

I did watch some of the New Hampshire race. I'll tune into NASCAR when they run at interesting tracks like that one. Definitely not the cookie-cutter and restrictor plate tracks. NASCAR at Darlington is still a spectacle in my book.

Richmond looking likely to be on the 2020 schedule...the unspoken part is that it will likely replace Pocono. I hope they changed their mind, but that's just what Indy Star has reported months ago.

NASCAR's Gander Outdoors Truck Series will share the billing with the NTT Data IndyCar Series at Gateway next year.

The Friday, August 21, 2020 date for the Truck event was announced earlier this week when NASCAR unveiled the full 2020 schedules for both Xfinity and Trucks, and Gateway confirmed on Thursday that the Truck series will serve as a curtain-raiser for the IndyCar event, which will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2020.

NBC raceday coverage is steaming hot garbage narrated by an Australian pipsqueak who pushes everything through his nasal cavity. They seem to think that the home audience wants to see long bumpers after every commercial rather than the race itself.

Here's a fun game -- every time Leigh Diffey says "While you were away," take a drink. You'll be on the floor before the halfway point.

At least the racing itself is good (the 80% or so they actually air).

I like Leigh Diffey and PT. For me, it's Townsend 'WHOA!' Bell I could do without. Edit: A lot of the northerner's actually dislike PT, but I like him because he's not afraid to say what he is thinking. Actually somewhat amazed NBC allows him to do that.

BTW, Indycar is going hybrid in 2022.

IndyCar pushes new engine back to 2022; Adds Hybrid element; Aims for 900 HP
Quote:

INDYCAR, in partnership with Chevrolet and Honda, will implement a single-source hybrid system in its race cars for the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season that will provide key enhancements ranging from competition to safety.

In keeping with INDYCAR's history of integrating innovation into the sport, the hybrid powertrain will mark the first time that the vehicles will depart from the traditional, manual hand-held electric starters to a hybrid component that can be activated by the driver from the cockpit.

The hybrid system will work in parallel with the internal combustion engines from Honda and Chevrolet, combining growing hybrid technology with the traditional power plants to produce in excess of 900 horsepower for the most competitive racing series in the world.

The hybrid technology will consist of a multi-phase motor, inverter and electric storage device that will create energy recovery from the car's braking system.

...

The new engine regulations will be in place for six years - 2022 through the 2027 seasons - in a concerted effort to provide a clear vision and stability for the NTT IndyCar Series engine manufacturers and teams. It is a continuation of INDYCAR's initial five-year strategic competition plan that originated in 2016.

Do any of you guys watch Sprint Car? Saw a news story about a spectator getting killed. Was curious and watched some different race highlights on YT. I think they air races free on their website. Looks fun, and maybe I can get my oval fix that way too

Occasionally. USAC is a bit of a mixed bag for me, but dirt sprint cars are fun. Oval Go-Kart racing is a hoot too (and fun to do):
