No. 2 Texas A&M trumped No. 8 South Carolina, 14-6, in its first home meet of the season.

After starting the season with a tough loss on the road to New Mexico State, the Aggies came back to Texas and defeated SMU last weekend, 11-9, in preparation for their first SEC meet.

A&M riders began the day winning Equitation over Fences, 3-2. Sophomore Rebecca Chenelle received the highest score of the day, earning an 87 aboard Romeo.

The A&M Horsemanship team conquered the Gamecocks, 4-1, making the score 7-3 before the break. Senior Kaci Fisher earned her fourth MOP award after defeating USC’s Maddie Thiel, 77-71.5.

Going into the second half, the Aggies maintained the lead after winning Equitation on the Flat. Strong rides from Anna Rea, Rebekah Chenelle and Maddie Swem put three more points on the board for A&M, pushing the score to 10-5 heading into the last event.

Reining closed out the day with a 4-1 win over the Gamecocks. Sarah McEntire earned the first point for the Aggies in the event, edging out Maddie Thiel, 71.5-70.5. Sarah Kate Grider, Jaci Marley and Haley Franc, who earned MOP honors for her win over Bailey Waters, 76-73, solidified the win for the Aggies.

Texas A&M Equestrian will hit the road for its next meet – facing No. 7 Georgia next weekend – before returning to Texas.
