Breeja's 1:05.92 at Trials would have won bronze.

Aaargh!

No matter what though I am proud of her, Steve, and Alia for a fine showing by Aggies in that race.

I have the address for a stream from the BBC. Generally pretty good and accessible freely.
(I.E : something you can get at work...)

For those of you that know me, feel free to facebook or text and I'll send it to you.

It's expressly against texags policy for me to post this, so don't bother asking.

I'm also really glad they focused on the two smiling and giving each other a hug after the race. That was awesome.

BTW - unbelievable gold medal swim by Missy Franklin in her 100 back - just ten minutes after her 200 free semi. Just short of the WR. Incredible how a young swimmer can recover vs. the old farts.

And way to go USA for the Grevers-Thoman gold-silver!

Stupid malfunction. That may have messed Breeja up. Great job from both Breeja and Alia! Would've been great to see either medal.

Question for the swimmers and divers out there - what is the purpose of the shower/hot tub after every dive? TIA...
SpicewoodAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Swimmers don't get in the hot tub. But divers sit in the tub to stay warm and loose between dives. They dive for a few seconds and would otherwise get cold and stiff.

Every serious competition facility for diving has a hot tub - either builtin or on the deck.

BTW - Anyone else see Bill Gates in the stands behind Phelps' mother? You can see him at 1:30 in the replay of today's semis/finals session.

So would this be considered a disappointing Olympics for lochte so far?
TheSituation80
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sooner,

He destroyed the 400IM, did better in the relay than the USA was expected to and had an ok 200. It might not be a great Olympics by his standards but I think he's doing fine.

Nobody was beating Agnel in the 200 free.

Edit: if he wins the 200 back then he would've done as well as I expected him to do.

What's the deal with our men in gymnastics? Slacking pretty hard.

He perhaps has a case of "leading Team USA after Phelps went 8 for 8 in 8."

He's doing fine, although I'm sure he's disappointed he faded in the final 50 today. It will turn into disappointing games if he can not close the deal in the 200IM.

Olympic Final Stinker Count:
Lochte 2
Phelps 1
Missy 0

Looks like Missy is leading the Team at this point. I suspect Michael may return to form on Tuesday though.

Found this quote this morning.

Some interesting news breaking a little earlier about Chinese phenom Ye Shiwen, who won gold and set a world record in the women's 400-meter IM:

China's Olympic champion swimmer Ye Shiwen, 16, denies taking drugs to enhance her performancebbc.co.uk/news/uk-190587… #BBC2012

— BBC Sport (@BBCSport) July 31, 2012
According to the BBC, U.S. coach John Leonard called the 16-year-old's performance "disturbing". Incredibly, she swam the last 50 meters of the race faster than the men's champion. Let's hope the speculation doesn't become fact.

Does this story have any legs?

Looked to be a smooth swim for Camille, relaxed and very nice!

Was really hoping Grevers would get the WR last night - I don't think he really gets the attention his performances deserve due to the other circus's going on around him.
SpicewoodAg

I agree with LOB. Lochte has underachieved so far except in the 400 IM.

Lochte should not have been on the 4x100 free relay. I think Grevers, even after a 100 back final, would have swum faster than Lochte. Grevers is a 100 guy through and through. But the head mens coach is Gregg Troy, Lochte's coach, and made the choice. Lochte needs to grow up a bit too - no more partying till 2 a.m. before big races the next day. And give up that stupid stuff like "the grill" he wanted to wear during the medal ceremony. I'm so glad the IOC told him no.

Just fricking race man!

On the disappointment list so far:

Magnussen and all the Australian sprinters
Kitajima
Stephanie Rice

It has not been kind to reigning medalists and world record holders.

How does FINA and or the IOC handle drug testing leading up to the games? How far out or is it random?

Breeja!

I loved the big smile after the race and her being excited for Soni.

I think she was rattled by the bizarre start. I had flashbacks to our kid's middle school meets!

I have no basis for judgement other than the media coverage and other stories but I agree.

I think Lochte's performance also shows just how incredible Phelps' 2008 performance was. It's no wonder he burned out.

Wieber and Maroney were nails on the vault to begin the team final.

after 2 rotations the women are up by .6 on Russia. They've done the vault and uneven bars. Both are rotating together and are on the balance beam right now.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
USA got through the balance beam smooth. First 2 rooskies are way out of sorts. Very shaky. US will get a net-win, at least head to head against the rooskies on this one. Final russian did pretty good.

Haven't seen an updated scoreboard lately to see what China or Romania has done. Floor exercise next.

2nd russian just slipped and ended with a 12 and change. As long as the americans don't fall on their floor routines, they should be good.

and the 3rd russian falls on her final tumble!

Douglass did great and then Weiber just owned it. one more to go, but this thing is done. Must feel bittersweet for Weiber, but she showed up today and looked outstanding.

And Raisman nails it.

USA gets team gold!

Schmitt with clear water between her and the rest of the field in the 200 free.

Missy misses bronze by 1/100th of a second.

Phelps shockingly didn't get the touch. I thought he had it. His momentum was slowing by the microsecond at the end.

Cammille Adams advances to the finals in 7th place with a very controlled swim. I hope she plans to unleash the beast inside her tomorrow. I know she is a back half swimmer but she needs to go 2:05 to have a chance at a medal.
TheSituation80
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I feel bad for Phelps. He just gets out touched and doesn't become the first male 3-peat champ in the 200 fly.
TXAggie2011
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He just got his 18th medal. Best ever.

I don't feel too bad for him. Shocking end to the race, though.

Hahahaha, the BBC is interviewing Chad Le Clos' dad live on air. He's an overweight, overzealous man with a loud, but growingly hoarse accent. Pretty cool!
