Wait a second. I'm still on the it will take off team but how does teh plane get any initial velocity? If the conveyor always matches the speed of the plane exactly, teh wheels have no chance to save the plane.

take that skateboard and fan in video and put it on a treadmill. If the treadmill is going as fast as the fan is pushing... it wont go anywhere. Will it?
quote:The aircraft does not move forward because of some drive mechanism between the engine and the wheels. There is no such mechanism. The thrust moves the aircraft forward.
So to me that means it is impossible for the plane to ever get any velocity. As the thrust of the engine increases, the sped of the plane increases, but the belt increases in the opposite direction at the exact same instant.

wanna porn bomb this thread to make it go away?

They were pulling the paper backwards, which in turn makes the wheels on the skateboard go faster with the propulsion the fan was providing.
