For the first time, Texas A&M soccer heads to San Marcos.

Texas A&M (1-1-0, 0-0-0) is set to play the Texas State Bobcats (1-0-1, 0-0-0) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. CT at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

A&M leads the all-time series 4-0-1, with their last match against the Bobcats ending in a draw in 2025.

The previous five games have been in College Station.

Can the Aggies extend their series lead with a win on the Bobcats’ pitch?

A&M had a slow start and struggled on Sunday to find its rhythm in the first half and trailed Baylor 2-0 before freshman forward Finley Lacher’s last-minute goal.

The goal sparked momentum going into the break, and the Aggies displayed a more possession-oriented second half with cleaner passes and greater assertiveness, and did not allow the Bears to score again.

Texas A&M last defeated Texas State on March 27, 2021, in a 3-0 decision at Ellis Field that featured goals from Taylor Pounds (pictured), Barbara Olivieri and Kendall Bates.

“Every game that we get this group together playing another game is important,” head coach Bobby Shuttleworth said on Sunday. “The second half showed a little bit more grittiness from us, a little more determination, aggressiveness...and that's got to be the standard for us in this program. Those things are non-negotiable. With this team, if you see that, we're going to have some success.”

Now, they’ll look to bring that same energy from the opening whistle against Texas State.

On Monday, Shuttleworth announced the newest addition to the roster.

Midfielder Venla Lindfors is the 11th freshman on the young Aggie team, wearing #88.

The Espoo, Finland, native is the first Finnish player in A&M soccer history. Lindfors arrives in Aggieland with her international experience to enhance the midfield.

Lindfors has played for multiple European clubs, including Sweden's Lidköpings FK in the Elitettan league from 2022-24, where she was recognized as Player of the Year in 2024.

“The second half showed a little bit more grittiness from us, a little more determination, aggressiveness...and that's got to be the standard for us in this program. Those things are non-negotiable. With this team, if you see that, we're going to have some success.”

Most recently, she represented her country on the Finnish U23 national team. Lindfors has also played for Fortuna Sittard Women (2024-25) and FC Honka Women (2021). Across the clubs, she has played in 63 games and scored six goals.

Not just once, but twice, she earned the Eredivisie Talent of the Month honor while at Fortuna Sittard in 2024.

“Venla is an excellent technical player with a natural feel for the game, outstanding passing ability and the vision to connect play and create opportunities,” Shuttleworth said via release. “We are excited to see the impact she will make on our team and look forward to her continued growth as an Aggie.”

While she is immediately eligible, Shuttleworth told TexAgs that Lindfors will not make her Aggie debut on Wednesday, which means A&M’s midfield reinforcements will wait at least until this weekend.

The Bobcats also played on Sunday and won 4-1 against UTRGV. Texas State was picked to finish second in the 2026 Pac-12 preseason coaches’ poll.

A new Aggie and a new pitch makes for an anticipated match on Wednesday.

The matchup will be livestreamed on the Pac-12 YouTube channel for those not traveling to San Marcos.
