That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough
It was a good weekend.
But we still need to see more.
That’s what the pollsters at D1Baseball are telling Texas A&M baseball following a three-game sweep of Tennessee Tech at Blue Bell Park on Opening Weekend.
That’s fair, and that’s why the Aggies only moved up one spot to No. 24 in the latest D1Baseball Top 25.
Against an Ohio Valley Conference opponent, A&M did what was expected and outscored the Golden Eagles 45-13 over the weekend.
On Opening Day, the offensive approach impressed in a 15-6 victory, and then it dominated en route to the highest single-game run output since 2023 in a 23-7 win on Saturday.
In the series finale, a series of paper cuts (aka singles due to the strong north wind) allowed the Aggies to complete the sweep with a 7-1 decision.
While the whole squad shone, a few stars shined brightest.
Leading the way was designated Wesley Jordan, as the Baylor transfer was 7-for-9 with two home runs and two doubles, along with five walks and a hit by pitch. Through three games as an Aggie, his OPS is a ridiculous 2.534.
All-American Caden Sorrell was even better than advertised, homering twice on Friday and once more on Saturday before enjoying a rather quiet four-hit day in Game 3. Going 9-for-15 with a 1.200 slugging percentage, Sorrell drove in a team-best 10.
That’s not to overlook returner Gavin Grahovac, impact transfer Chris Hacopian and true freshmen Nico Partida and Boston Kellner, who were each solid in their own respect.
On the mound, all three starters earned the win, with Sunday’s Aiden Sims standing a cut above the rest as he spun six one-run, one-hit innings while striking out a career-best seven hitters.
Lopsided scores kept a lot of impact relievers on the shelf vs. Tennessee Tech, but Ethan Darden (1.2 innings on Friday) and Clayton Freshcorn (three-inning save on Sunday) impressed.
There’s plenty to build on for Michael Earley’s Aggies as they move forward.
They’ll aim to do just that vs. Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Tuesday before Penn comes down this weekend.
