Big game. Big performance.
Big Albert.
For his role in Texas A&M’s 41-40 win at Notre Dame, defensive tackle Albert Regis has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Defensive Lineman of the Week.
In the triumph in South Bend, Regis finished just off the team lead with seven total tackles, including five solo stops. He was also credited with a sack and a tackle-for-loss.
Facing one of the best running games in the country, No. 17 first made his presence felt with about five and a half minutes remaining in the second quarter when he stonewalled Jadarian Price for no gain on the first play of a Notre Dame three-and-out.
On the first drive of the second half, Regis got into the backfield and flustered CJ Carr, who threw the ball away and drew a flag for intentional grounding. As a result, the Aggie defensive tackle was credited with his first sack of the year on the seven-yard loss.
With so much made about the Irish duo of Jeremiyah Love and Price, the interior of the defensive line — Regis, Tyler Onyedim and DJ Hicks — is to be applauded for holding the Notre Dame to just 3.5 yards per carry. Considering the competition and setting, A&M showed it’s capable of improving against the run, which had been a talking point for much of the preseason and into the first few weeks of 2025.
Shockingly, Regis is the only Aggie to walk away with a weekly honor in Week 3 as the league again seems to forget that the SEC extends beyond the Sabine River.
There is no love for Mario Craver, who had 207 receiving yards.
There is no love for Marcel Reed, who passed for 360 yards and engineered an improbable game-winning drive with a clutch fourth-down touchdown pass to Nate Boerkircher.
There’s not even love for an offensive lineman despite the Aggies racking up 488 yards of offense on the road without giving up a sack as A&M ran just two plays that resulted in lost yardage.
Instead, there is only love for Regis, and there is a lot to love.
On the season, the graduate student from La Porte has 15 total tackles, nine solo stops, one sack and one TFL.
This is the first SEC weekly honor of his career, and he becomes the second consecutive Aggie to be named the league’s Defensive Lineman of the Week, joining Cashius Howell.
