Texas A&M's Terrence Kiel II named SEC's Co-Freshman of the Week
Not a bad debut for an Aggie legacy!
On Monday, it was announced that Texas A&M utility player Terrence Kiel II had been named the Southeastern Conference’s Co-Freshman of the Week.
Kiel shares the honor with Texas shortstop Adrian Rodriguez, who originally signed with A&M out of Flower Mound High School.
"I was blessed with the opportunity to start on Friday night, yesterday and today," said Kiel on Sunday. "The coaches put me in a great spot, and they got me ready for this opportunity that I got, and I took full advantage of it. It has been amazing."
Earning the start in right field for the Maroon & White in each of A&M’s Opening Weekend wins over Elon, Kiel made a great showing of himself for Michael Earley’s top-ranked Aggies.
The true freshman hit .500 (4-for-8) with three runs scored. Additionally, he drew a trio of walks, including two in his collegiate debut on Friday.
His first college hit was a two-run single during Saturday’s 16-6 thrashing as he finished 2-for-4 that afternoon before going 2-for-2 on Sunday in a showing that also included his first career stolen base.
“That’s just playing with confidence,” Kiel said. “Like Earley said, if you play scared, you might make mistakes, so I just take that with me during an AB or out to the field. When I play pretty confident and not scared, you see a pretty positive impact on the game.”
This is the first SEC weekly honor of Kiel’s young career.
