We are just a few short weeks away from Aggie baseball's Opening Day against Elon. Texas A&M Hall of Famer and former MLB third baseman Scott Livingstone previewed the Maroon & White’s looming season and their plethora of potential.

Key notes from Scott Livingstone interview

  • I was a little nervous to get started with the Ball5Podcast because it was a little bit over my head, trying to do everything myself with the technology and learning it. Being such an old guy, I'm trying to expand on it a little bit more. It was all audio last year, and it's on Spotify, iHeart Radio and all the stations you can listen to your podcasts. I want to put in some video-type pieces and some smaller pieces. As Jace LaViolette continues to hit home runs, show some clips or something like that. Just little things to expand it further down the road. It's going pretty good. I like it. It's fun. I get to interview the Aggie players, and it's neat to pull for them and then find out that they're just solid men, too.

  • I've had LaViolette, Gavin Grahovac, Hayden Schott and Ryan Prager on the podcast. Watching them on the field and seeing how talented they are, I think a lot of it comes from their background. I'm talking about their parents supporting them when they were younger. They were there for them. Everybody was in their corner to help them out and be there for them. The guys feed off of each other as well. It helps them be successful.

  • My excitement level is at pretty much an all-time high. I'm kind of on the outside looking in since I'm not in College Station. I haven't seen the fall ball games, the practices and everything. Back in the day, it would go off the paper clippings where you'd read about people. Now, everything's on social media and the internet. I’ve been reading about the players that we got in the portal, the freshmen that came in, the guys that are coming back and the coaching staff that Coach Michael Earley has built.

  • There's a lot of momentum there to keep going, keep building a program and what they're going to put on the field. They have to get it done. The talent is there, and they just got to go out and do it. I feel that they will just play to a very high level like they have in the last couple of years.

  • I'm a hitter, so I love the offense. They're going to bang the ball around, especially with the guys that came in.

  • It's a solid lineup. It's a scary lineup. I don't see a lot of concerns. I read something the other day where Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball said something about Earley's coaching in the late innings. I could see him making decisions. With pitching Coach Jason Kelly, who's been a head coach, it’ll help Earley to lean on him.

  • Being a player's manager, I think all the pieces are there. I think they have the arms. There are a lot of good players. There are young players that threw last year. I think they're going to have their options of who to put in, and somebody's going to step forward for sure. I know they will. The younger players, now that they've got a year under their belt. It's going to help them tremendously. Look at Caden Sorrell. He started building confidence throughout the year last year. That kid's going to be a force.

  • LaViolette hits for power. His average is good enough for the power. I think as long as he can manage the noise on the outside about how good he is and the MLB Draft, I think he can manage it.

  • After speaking to him on the Ball5Podcast, he's just so down to earth. He's a humble kid, and I love where his headspace is. I think with the players around him, with Schott, he's going to keep him grounded. He's not going to let him get the big head or anything like that. LaViolette has all the tools to be a Big League player, and I feel pretty good about it.
