Tyler White earns third SEC Special Teams Player of the Week award

Ray Guy Award. Give it to him.

For the third time this year, Texas A&M punter Tyler White was named the SEC’s Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in the Aggies’ 38-23 win over LSU.

Punting five times for 242 total yards, White averaged 48.4 yards per boot with a long of 54 yards and four downed inside the 20-yard line.

Most of his damage was done during the first half as he helped the Aggies win the field position battle while A&M’s offense sputtered.

His first punt was his shortest of the night, carrying 35 yards before being downed at the 7-yard line.

A second-quarter boot covered 48 yards and was fair caught by Zavion Thomas at LSU’s 10.

White’s final three surpassed 50 yards with consecutive punts of 53, 52 and 54 yards.

The last two came in the second half and helped keep the Aggie deficit at 17-7 before the offense ignited with Marcel Reed under center.

A&M scored on its next five possessions (four touchdowns and one field goal), but White was likely happy to keep watching from the sidelines as the Ags improved to 5-0 in conference play for the first time since joining the SEC.

What else can we say about the redshirt freshman beyond what has been said already?

On the year, he has punted 26 times for a 46.27-yard average. Nine have carried over 50 yards, 17 have been downed inside the opponent’s 20, and only three have snuck into the endzone.

For comparison's sake, Braden Mann had 19 downed inside the 20-yard line and accounted for nine touchbacks on 50 boots during his 2018 Ray Guy-winning season.

He’s a weapon for Mike Elko & Co., and he proves it week after week. Literally.
