Gerrod Chadwell recaps a memorable week at the 2024 Solheim Cup

With the fall slate in full swing, Texas A&M women's golf hits the road this weekend for the Mason Rudolph Championship in Franklin, TN. On Tuesday, Gerrod Chadwell joined TexAgs Live to discuss the latest and his wife, Stacy Lewis, captaining Team USA to a Solheim Cup title.

• It has been a great week at the Solheim Cup with my wife, Stacy Lewis, who was Team USA’s captain. I was missing what was going on here, but I didn't want that week to end. The dancing people saw on the first tee was every bus ride and every team meeting. It was so much fun.
   
• Stacy's journey to winning that championship began in 2019. She went over to Scotland and couldn't play. She was left off the team in 2021, which was a heartbreaker. Then, last year in Spain, it ended in a tie. Outside of soccer, ties suck. I have never wanted something for someone more than I wanted for her team to win this year. She has poured a lot of late nights into that. Her captaincy has been forever changed because of that event. It got a little bit uncomfortable at the turn, but they played really well on the back nine. It was epic and so cool to be a part of that.
   
• We don't talk a lot about golf at home. It's everything else. I enjoy being home. Home for us in the summer is a hotel room a lot of the time. My team was very understanding of me spending this week with my wife and supporting her.
   
• I have a lot of great memories of the Vanderbilt Legends course. My teams at Oklahoma finished fourth or sixth at nationals there. We had an individual national champion there. I am excited to get there. There will be some new faces, but it is a place I am very familiar with.
   
• Vanessa Borovilos is fitting in great. She will have a chance to be Freshman of the Year in the SEC. She hasn't played her best yet. We are getting her closer to that. We are trying to help her get her feet set off the golf course with expectations. She is crushing it in the gym. I am excited to see her growth.
   
• Adela Cernousek is setting a new standard for us. She is in a league of her own here in terms of qualifying. That sets the bar high for everyone to try to keep up with her. Keeping up with her might just be a win. Beating her is beating a world-class player. Just recently, we named her team captain. She is only the second team captain I've ever had. That speaks to who she is off the golf course. She is going to lead a younger team. I am very excited for her and the year she is going to have. She is going through stage two of Q School next month. That way, when we finish up at nationals, she can start her professional career.
   
• I think there is respect earned more off the golf course than on it. Cernousek is the lone senior. We had a lot of talks this summer about what being a leader looks like. I didn't start talking to her about being captain until school started. Last year, during her national championship run, all she cared about was where the team was at. She will always put the team first.
   
• Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio's first tournament was better than it was last year. She is rooming with Adela now. She is chasing her around. “Cata” is taking better care of her business and body off the golf course. The way she does things is at a different speed than others. I have seen a little bit more maturity from her. I think she is more comfortable. I think we are going to see a great year from her.
