Renewing the Rivalry: Bohls remembers a chilly '93 A&M win over Texas

From 1984 to 1994, the Aggies took 10 of 11 from their archrivals, including a 1993 victory on a cold Thanksgiving evening in College Station. Diving into Texas A&M's 18-9 win, Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle joined TexAgs LIVE for another installment of "Renewing the Rivalry."

Key notes from Kirk Bohls interview

  • Leeland McElroy did get things started in the 1993 Texas A&M vs. Texas. He had a huge kick return for a touchdown, and he had two more against Rice in one game. A&M had Rodney Thomas, and I have always been a big fan of Rodney Thomas. It was a close game. The Aggies ended up beating Texas 18-9, and that wasn't a great Texas team. They had some great players, but it wasn't a great team.

  • I think Notre Dame is a heck of a team. That's a solid to great defense, and that secondary? Oh, my goodness. I don't think it was anything to be ashamed of. Conner Weigman did not look good. They didn't have Ainias Smith or Evan Stewart, but they have got to get the offense clicking. Mike Elko is a defensive coach. Weigman is going to have better days.

  • They have a couple of games they can win well. They have McNeese, and then they go to Florida. At least one of them, they can handle.

  • Michigan has a great defensive front. Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant, their two defensive tackles interior... These guys may be the equal for Texas. They might present a challenge to the Texas running game, but you've got to beat Fresno State by more than 30-10.

  • Michigan replaced nine offensive starters. They got a preferred walk-on as their starting quarterback, Davis Warren, out of Los Angeles. That was his first start. They'll be going up against Quinn Ewers, who is on his 24th start. The defense will be stingy, and it'll be a tight first half. I think Texas has a good chance to wear them down and put up more points than Michigan.
