Bryce Deadmon '19, Team USA claim GOLD in men's 4x400-meter relay

He’s done it again.  

On Saturday night in Paris, former Texas A&M track star Bryce Deadmon '19 helped the United States win gold in the men's 4x400-meter relay and set a new Olympic record.

It was nothing new for Deadmon, who was part of the Team USA men's 4x400m team that brought home the gold in Tokyo in 2020, and the 2022 Outdoor team who claimed the top spot at the World Championships. Deadmon now has four medals in the last two Olympic games. 

Deadmon is now the first Aggie to claim the top spot on the podium at the Games of the XXXIII Olympiad. He also is the only former A&M athlete with two medals in Paris, following a silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay.

The Missouri City native and fellow countrymen Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood and Rai Benjamin ran a 2:54:43 in the final. Botswana claimed silver in the race, while Great Britain will go home with the bronze.

The quartet ran the second-fastest time in world history, just .14 seconds off the world record. Deadmon’s split clocked in at 43.50.

This came after a third-place finish in Friday night's heat in which 16-year-old Quincy Wilson ran an underwhelming 47.27 in his first Olympic race. However, the USA excelled in the final to win the competition for the third Olympics in a row.

While at A&M, Deadmon won eight individual NCAA Championships, four of which were a part of the Aggies' 4x400m team. 

The Ridge Point High School alum also holds 13 spots on Texas A&M's All-Time Top-12 Performer List. Eight of those spots are in the race where he has claimed two gold medals at the Olympics. 

Deadmon holds the top spot in the Outdoor 4x400m with a time of 2:59.05 in 2019 and the Indoor 300m, clocking a 32.73 in 2021. 

After Saturday's race, Deadmon's Olympic run in Paris is finished, but not without bringing home two medals for his country, his university and Mo City.
