Brian Kortan, A&M men's golf secured trip to NCAA Championships

The No. 19 Texas A&M men’s golf team earned a spot in next week’s NCAA Championship with a third-place showing at the NCAA Stanford Regional. On Friday's edition of TexAgs Radio, head coach Brian Kortan discussed his team's success and more.

• The guys did a great job. A really impressive performance.
   
• We were off to a rough start. The first nine holes, we were two or three over par. The guys shot like 12-under on that first side. We posted a really nice score that day, and they backed it up the second day. The guys were nails. 
   
• We have a standard. That is to play for championships. When we leave town, we attend to do well. That’s the bottom line. The guys buy in.
   
• Five of the top 10 teams in the country did not make it through regionals. It is similar to a lot of sports. You have to put your best foot forward. 
   
• Phichaksn Maichon was amazing. Makes one bogie. I was kidding with him on the way home, saying, ”What happened on hole six?” He was in control. Daniel Rodrigues competes his tail off. Jaime Montojo does what Jaime does. He looks like he gets behind, but he has trick shots in the book. Michael Heidelbaugh played two great rounds. Aaron Pounds was pretty comfortable most of the week. It was a team effort. 
   
• We don't want to put it on one guy, and they don't. It was a very impressive week with two holes in one and seven eagles.
   
• We will get some work in, head to San Diego and play some golf. We got back last night. The practice round is on Thursday. The women are there now. It will be a test. They want to make it a site we stay at. It needs to be difficult. I am looking forward to it.
   
• They are a competitive bunch. They really care about each other. They have a good time. They enjoy competition. The road is fun for us.
