'I'm at a 10': Conner Weigman excited by Texas A&M's hire of Mike Elko

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks for Texas A&M football, and Conner Weigman has seen it all firsthand. In an exclusive interview, Weigman spoke about his rehab process, the Aggies hiring Mike Elko, A&M's bowl projections and much more.

Key notes from Conner Weigman interview

  • I'm good. It's exciting times right now. Taking first steps. I’m walking upstairs on my own and not one-hopping it. It's been nice to walk on both feet.

  • I got the worst part over with. We have mobility and other stuff to work out. I have been in rehab five or six days a week. I have been working at it every day.

  • Seeing Jaylen Henderson against Mississippi State, that was awesome. I was on the sideline cheering him on. There was nothing like it. He put in the work. He put his nose in it and grinded. When Max Johnson was playing, he was locked in and asking questions. Henderson was ready to go when it was his time.

  • Marcel Reed is a great guy to be around. He has a rocket for an arm. He can throw that thing.

  • I was trying to make sure the Jimbo Fisher news was real. I came running down the stairs and told my roommate we had to go. I did not expect it. I don't have much to say on that.

  • I was excited. I have known coach Mike Elko for a while. I played baseball with his son, Mikey. He is a down-to-earth guy, and it's cool to see him back in Aggieland.

  • We all want to be here and stay together. We want to do what we set out to do when we got here. We have to stick together as a team and put the work in.

  • I am at a 10 with the Elko hire. All the offensive guys are waiting to see who the offensive coordinator will be. We trust him to make a good hire. That's what he has preached to us since he has been here. I think he will do it.

  • It's cool to be a part of that. Building the structure and culture and being the guys who start it will be a cool experience for all of us.

  • To be the guy to talk to my teammates and put these guys together, let's put on a show next year. We are ready to do that.

  • That's a tough question. I think Georgia will play out against Alabama. Jalen Milroe is from where I am from. Michigan vs. Iowa... Iowa can't score points, so Michigan. The Washington vs. Oregon game will be good. I will go with Washington. Florida State, I think they will pull it off. I think Florida State should definitely be in.

  • That's the plan, to be in New York next year. Jayden Daniels was different. I think he's got the Heisman in the bag. His receivers are different as well, and he had three. He can use his feet when he needs to. He has 1,000 rushing yards.

  • I am just chilling. I will go see the family. Hunting a little bit. I can't get around too well. We are getting there.

I am excited about where we are now compared to where we were a month a go. We now have hope. Still proud of the AD pulling the string to start the process to get rid of Jimbo. Such a waste to talent and time. All due to a stubborn attitude.

My other school friends want to keep bringing up the money. So I say is it better to keep a mediocre program or make changes? Should we have continued with Jimbo to just to get the number down two years from now? Heck no.

The money is irrelevant unless it prohibits you from doing what is necessary in the future. I don't think that is the case with A&M. People who have and/or manage hundreds of millions of dollars don't sweat millions of dollars if they can rationalize a change needing to be made. That money may or may not affect something else but it won't affect what the football program is trying to do to win a national championship.

In the past, this could be a Medical Redshirt. Don't know if the rules are the same.

He won't need it. Two more years and he's going pro.

The new OC will let Conner cook. The coached up O-line will better protect him. They will play with better pace in a better scheme. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

I would feel more comfortable if he had said he was ready to turn it to 11
