Brauny's Best: Highlighting top high school performances from Week 3

Here's a look at my top performers from Week 3 on the Texas high school football circuit.

Texas A&M’s 2024 Class

2024 Silsbee ATH Drelon Miller

  • 3 receptions, 145 yards, 2 touchdowns

Not a bad night for the ultra-talented Miller, who averaged over 41 yards per reception in a blowout win over Nederland (covers face).

After being pretty much kept in check last week against Huffman-Hargrave, Drelon got back into his groove with a pair of touchdown catches and runs of 78 and 51 yards. He's an amazing blend of power and elusiveness after the match.

Miller boasts running back attributes with an overall wide receiver skill set. As we've said multiple times, he's just a fantastic football player.

State of Texas

2024 Midlothian Heritage ATH Stetson Sarratt

  • 8 receptions, 207 yards, 2 touchdowns; 1 tackle, 2 interceptions; blocked PAT return, 30-yard kick return

There was a salty list of contenders from this past weekend, but I had to give the nod to Sarratt because holy stat line.

You want to talk about affecting every phase of the game. What Sarratt did in a win against Waco La Vega was pretty remarkable. He's currently got one offer from Texas A&M-Commerce. I expect that to change after putting all that on film.

My Coverage

2024 Katy OL Coen Echols

  • Helped pave the way for a Katy offense that produced 454 total yards (165 rushing)

Echols and his buddies up front were flat-out dominant last Friday night in a comfortable win over Katy Tompkins, and I thought the future Maroon Goon was the best I'd ever seen him. He has an ideal frame and body style for a center, and in the run-heavy Katy offense, Echols is given a lot of pre-snap responsibilities.

I liked what I saw in terms of Echols being vocal and making calls on top of his actual performance once the ball was snapped. He played with outstanding leverage and flashed some fleet feet when climbing to the second level. Once he locked up his target, he showed a consistent willingness to put guys on the turf — something that's become common for him throughout the early stages of the season.
