Middle Tennessee transfer guard Eli Lawrence commits to Texas A&M hoops
Buzz Williams has nabbed another quality addition out of the transfer portal as Middle Tennessee State guard Eli Lawrence announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Tuesday evening.
Lawrence arrives in Aggieland with one year of eligibility remaining, having spent the last four seasons with the Blue Raiders in Conference USA.
The Atlanta native is coming off his best season yet, starting in 31 games and averaging a team-best 12.2 points per game (42 percent shooting) along with 4.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists en route to earning Second Team All-Conference USA honors.
Standing at 6-foot-5, 210 pounds, Lawrence is described as an athletic lefty that can heat up from 3-point range with a knack for creating offense off the dribble.
Lawrence put together several noteworthy performances during the 2022-23 season. He posted a season-high 21 points last December against Chattanooga and followed up with a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double on New Year’s Eve.
Tallying 18 points with a perfect 8-for-8 mark at the free throw line, Lawrence became the 35th player in program history to record 1,000 career points in a February contest at UAB.
Perhaps his most memorable moment was sealing a game-winning free throw in the closing seconds of a 74-70 upset over No. 25 Florida Atlantic the following week.
In total, Lawrence has 71 starts under his belt and compiled 1,075 points during his time in Murfreesboro.
Next to former Illinois-Chicago guard Jace Carter, Lawrence is the second portal addition this offseason for the Aggies.
