TexAgs Recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • Texas A&M baseball just got a big commitment announcement. Sawyer Farr is an infielder from Boswell High School in Fort Worth. He's one of the top prospects in the state of Texas in the class of 2024. Jim Schlossnagle's recruiting machine is on a different level. He doesn't always want to use the transfer portal, but he will use it to supplement it. They're going to build this program through really good high school players, and the majority of them will come from the state of Texas.

  • When Jason Howell and I started covering how Jimbo Fisher's recruiting process and how the players, parents and coaches talk about Jimbo, it's the same way with Schlossnagle.

  • I think I'd rather Texas A&M host Texas State, but that wasn't an option. I'd say TCU because it's a better matchup than Texas is. They have a scouting report on you, having played you. Either Texas or TCU would ramp up the ticket process. Schlossnagle would be better prepared to manage a game against TCU in a high-leverage situation.

  • Preliminary indications say that Texas A&M's pool party will be the last weekend of July, and that's typically when it usually is. The A&M staff has had some changes on the recruiting side, so it will be interesting to see if there are changes to the pool party. A number of the top prospects that signed this year were at that pool party. Rueben Owens‍ was there too, and he's one of your top prospects in the class of 2023.

  • I think the quarterback thing is something that A&M has slowed down on since Eli Holstein‍ decommitted. The further away we get from that commitment, the less likely it feels that he will come back to the class. It feels like to me that Holstein will go to Oregon or Alabama, which is fine. A&M will end up with whoever is right for this class.

  • Jaden Rashada‍ is a kid out of California, and he'll come to campus twice this summer. Dante Moore‍ is a five-star from Detroit that A&M will get a look from. Austin Novosad‍ is high on A&M's radar too, so it will be interesting if A&M extends an offer. There will be a breaking point with Novasad, and it'll be interesting to see if he shows up this summer.

  • Anthony Hill‍ is going to take an unofficial visit to Texas A&M this summer. He will take four officials earlier this summer, so maybe he can come back to Texas A&M later for an official visit. He hasn't said that he's going to come to A&M for that fifth official. Tyler Santucci has done a tremendous job in that recruitment. Anthony could be a kid that wants to be done before his senior year because he's not a huge rah-rah kid who loves the process.

  • David Hicks‍' (pictured above) recruitment might play out a little bit longer, but he doesn't seem like a big rah-rah guy either. I talked to him the other day, and he told me that nothing has changed. He has stayed in contact with A&M and talks to them multiple times every week.

  • There are a lot of kids that Texas A&M is trending well for right now, but there are a number of them that will take their time. There is nothing wrong with that, and you have to be careful not to read too much into recruiting stuff that you read.

  • We have not spoken enough about Dalton Brooks‍ and his potential to land at A&M. I'm hoping to make a trip to Shiner soon. He's a supremely athletic kid. He looks every bit of the part of an SEC defensive back, wide receiver, or running back. He has the talent in spades to play any of those positions, and he is highly valued by TJ Rushing and Jimbo Fisher. If he chooses A&M, he could start on defense and find his way to another spot. He's an elite football player.

  • I saw Brock Jackson‍ at Lumberton, and he's a guy that visited Texas A&M. He's a gifted athlete, but you don't know what he's going to be one day. He might be a defensive end or a tight end, but he's a kid that A&M is intrigued by. I saw Drelon Miller‍ at Silsbee, and he's going to be one of the top prospects in the class of 2024. He's an elite basketball player, and he could be similar to Shadrach Banks in high school. I also visited Port Neches-Groves and the underclassmen at Port Aurthur Memorial. I then visited Beaumont Kelly to see 2025 Texas A&M quarterback offer Roy Thomas Jenkins‍.

Thanks for the updates.
Can you tell me what the thinking was behind the NCAA's decision to cut baseball rosters from 45 to 37?
There must have been some reason though on the surface it makes no sense.
