Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White
TexAgs Recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail as high schools across the state prepare for spring football.
Key notes from Recruiting Country
- Jason had an update about Lebbeus Overton. I think he will visit College Station at the end of March, which will be on the heels of his visit to Oregon. Jason said his high school basketball schedule could impact that schedule. I said last time I didn't know if his brother would impact his recruitment; now, I know that they want to play with each other.
- Energetic is the word we've heard from people about Steve Addazio. He and Colton Thomasson hit it off great. He's been a head coach, and I've heard he feels really energized being back as a position coach for the first time in a while. I know he recently talked with TJ Shanahan out of Austin Westlake. I think Coach Addazio is excited to get to work.
- I will have a little bit of an update later in the week on TJ Shanahan. Talking to folks in the Austin area, I think the Aggies continue to put their right foot forward. They are a major player in this recruitment, along with the Longhorns. It will be interesting to continue to follow. I think the Maroon & White have the momentum here at the moment.
- I don't expect things to be super busy on the recruiting trail right now regarding commitments. I think they are still searching for a recruiting coordinator, but they still have some events on the horizon. Overton coming in at the end of March is a sign of that. They still have a true Junior Day in their pocket, as well as the Spring Game, which is always a big day for recruits.
- Braylon James is an interesting name to watch. Jordan Matthews out of Baton Rouge. Enough of these names over in the state of Louisianan that one of Jason or I will make it over to the Boot during our spring tour. I think it's an outstanding year in Louisiana. Let's not forget either. The Aggies already have the ring-leader in the class from Louisiana in Eli Holstein.
- The Early Signing Period was such a massive part of the 2022 Signing Class. I was trying to stick to specific dates for my series, but it was hard to leave out those few days, especially with Denver Harris announcing his signing after the State Championship.
