During Friday's edition of TexAgs Radio, the fishbowl's own Richard Zane joined to share updates from the latest in Aggie Athletics as a busy weekend is on tap in College Station with basketball season in full swing, softball's opening weekend and much, much more.


Softball (0-0, 0-0 in SEC)
The 2022 campaign is finally here, and Jo Evans and the Aggies will officially begin the season with five games this weekend — including an Opening Day doubleheader on Friday — in the Aggie Classic at Davis Diamond.

  • Friday: vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi — 3 p.m. CT
  • Friday: vs. UT Arlington — 5:30 p.m. CT
  • Saturday: vs. UT Arlington — 12:30 p.m. CT
  • Saturday: vs. Western Kentucky — 3 p.m. CT
  • Sunday: vs. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi — 12:30 p.m. CT
  • All five of Texas A&M’s games in the 2022 Aggie Classic will be streamed live on the SEC Network+.

Women’s Basketball (14-9, 4-7 in SEC)
The Maroon & White’s winning ways continued on Thursday night as the Aggies picked up a third consecutive victory, defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores at Reed Arena, 76-58.

  • Qadashah Hoppie and Kayla Wells each had 19 points to lead the way.
  • Aaliyah Patty joined them in double figures with 10 points, while Destiny Pitts contributed nine.
  • Texas A&M outscored Vanderbilt in the first quarter, 18-11, and the Aggies never relinquished the lead.

Gary Blair & Co. are back at Reed Arena on Sunday afternoon as they host No. 14 LSU.

  • Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT, and the game will be streamed on the SEC Network+.
  • The Aggies and Tigers previously met on Jan. 2 in Baton Rouge, with LSU prevailing, 75-66.
  • Texas A&M will be wearing pink uniforms as the contest will be A&M’s annual “BTHO Breast Cancer Game.”

Men’s Basketball (15-9, 4-7 in SEC)
Texas A&M’s losing streak reached seven games on Tuesday night as the Aggies fell to LSU at Reed Arena, 76-68.

  • Baton Rouge native Tyrece Radford had a team-high 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field.
  • Henry Coleman III (12), Wade Taylor IV (12) and Quenton Jackson (11) joined Radford in double figures.
  • LSU shot 7-of-10 from 3-point range in the first half and led by 20 at the break, 36-16.

The Aggies travel to The Plains this weekend to face No. 1 Auburn on Saturday.

  • Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT, and the game will be televised on ESPN immediately following College GameDay.
  • The top-ranked Tigers enter with a 22-2 record and are 10-1 in the SEC. Auburn fell to Arkansas in overtime on Tuesday night, 80-76.

Equestrian (7-1, 3-0 in SEC)
No. 2 Texas A&M had a trio of Aggies selected as Southeastern Conference Riders of the Month for January following strong showings in A&M’s win over Baylor.

  • Lisa Bricker earned the honor for Reining.
  • Haley Redifer earned the honor for Fences.
  • Hayley Riddle earned the honor for Horsemanship.

On Monday, Texas A&M equestrian horse Carrera was named the NECA’s Horse of the Month for the month of January.

  • A fences horse, Carrera is in his 12th season with the Aggies and scored a 90 and 92 vs. Baylor while being rode by Redifer.

The Aggies travel to Bishop, GA, this weekend for a top-five showdown with No. 5 Georgia on Saturday.

Men’s Golf
Senior Sam Bennett and fifth-year senior Walker Lee have been named to the Ben Hogan Award Watch List.

  • The two Aggies are among the 30 collegiate golfers on the list.
  • Texas A&M is one of just seven schools to feature multiple golfers on the list.
  • The Ben Hogan Award is given annually to the best college golf player in the United States by the Friends of Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Swimming & Diving
Senior Kurtis Mathews and senior Aimee Wilson were named SEC Divers of the Week for their impressive performances at the Air Force Diving Invitational last weekend.

  • Mathews won the 3-meter with a school-record score of 483.55, beating the previous mark of 478.40 by Tyler Henschel. Mathews now holds both of Texas A&M’s springboard records.
    • Mathews also finished second in the 1-meter last weekend.
    • This is the third time Mathews has earned SEC Diver of the Week honors this season, and it is the fourth such honor of his career.
  • Wilson swept the springboard competition with wins on the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
    • Wilson posted a score of 306.20 on the 1-meter.
    • Wilson posted a score of 352.00 on the 3-meter.
    • This is the second time Wilson has earned SEC Diver of the Week honors this season, and it is the ninth such honor of her career.

On deck is the SEC Swimming & Diving Championships, which begin on Tuesday, Feb. 15, in Knoxville.

Women’s Tennis (9-0, 0-0 in SEC)
No. 8 Texas A&M puts its perfect record on the line this weekend as they travel to Madison, WI, to play in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.

  • The Aggies will face No. 4 California on Friday at 3:30 p.m. CT.

Men’s Tennis (4-0, 0-0 in SEC)
No. 12 Texas A&M travels to Tampa on Saturday to face South Florida as the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.

  • The match begins at 12:30 p.m. CT, and the action will not be televised.
