The SEC officially unveiled the 2021 SEC Football Awards and All-SEC teams on Tuesday, and five Aggies made the first- and second-teams. Kenyon Green and DeMarvin Leal were named first-teamers, while Isaiah Spiller, Jalen Wydermyer and Nik Constantinou were named to the second team.
After earning first-team All-SEC and All-American preseason honors, Kenyon Green did not disappoint with a stellar junior season that saw him play virtually every position on the offensive line. The Humble, Texas native led the A&M o-line to another successful season that put the Aggies at 30th in sacks allowed with a sack rate of just 4.7%.
DeMarvin Leal, another preseason All-SEC pick, also more than met expectations in 2021. Leal posted 8.5 total sacks on the season, which puts him at 27th in the nation. He has 13 total sacks in his career, also logging 133 total tackles at A&M. His presence on the defensive line has been crucial for an Aggie defensive unit that ranks 20th in the country in total defense. Leal recently announced this was his last season in the Maroon & White, declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft in which he is projected as a first-round pick.
Isaiah Spiller was another Aggie who drew the attention of many this season, rushing for his second straight 1000-yard season with 1,011. This puts Spiller at fourth in the SEC in rushing yardage in 2021. The junior running back has now rushed for 2,993 yards and 25 touchdowns in his career. Spiller needs just 71 yards in the bowl game to pass Rodney Thomas for sixth in all-time rushing yards in Texas A&M history.
A huge factor in the passing game, Jalen Wydermyer’s presence on the field was a huge role in the Aggie offense in 2021. Wydermyer caught 40 passes for 515 yards and four touchdowns this season. That brings his career total to 118 receptions for 1468 yards and 16 touchdowns, a school record for tight ends.
Nik Constantinou’s strong leg also earned him All-SEC second-team honors in 2021. The Australian punter saw steady improvement from 2020, punting for an average of 46.6 and a long of 65 in 2021.
