Seth Small named SEC Co-Special Teams Player of the Week
No Small feat.
On Monday, the Southeastern Conference named Texas A&M placekicker Seth Small the league's Co-Special Teams Player of the Week after he made four field goals in the Aggies' 20-3 win over Auburn. He shares the honors with South Carolina kicker Parker White.
"Seth [Small] hit four of them," head coach Jimbo Fisher said. "That was big, especially getting us up three scores at the end, doing what he did there in that regard."
Small opened the scoring on the Aggies' first drive of the day, nailing a 21-yard field goal after the offense stalled inside the red zone. However, his second attempt sailed wide right from 42 yards away as the ballgame remained knotted after 30 minutes.
With under four minutes remaining in the third quarter, it was Small who broke the 3-3 tie with a 29-yarder. It was the second time the senior salvaged points for the Aggies after the offense failed to find the endzone on a goal-to-go situation.
Early in the final stanza, Small extended A&M's lead to six points with a 47-yard field goal to push the score to 9-3. He later added a fourth field goal with 3:15 to play to close out the scoring.
Micheal Clemons' fumble recovery for a touchdown and the ensuing two-point conversation were the only Texas A&M points that did not come courtesy of Small's right foot.
In kicking four field goals on the afternoon, Small moved past Randy Bullock (2008-11) on the program's all-time list with his 68th career field goal. Small now has 355 career points, 10 behind Bullock for that program record.
On the year, Small is now 18-of-23 with a long of 49 yards.
A Katy High School product, Small is one of 20 semifinalists for the Lou Groza Collegiate Placekicker Award. Should he win the prestigious honor, Small would become just the second Aggie ever to take the award, joining none other than Bullock (2011).
It is the first SEC Player of the Week honor of the senior's career.
