SEC announces 2021 football schedule, including seven games at Kyle Field

On Tuesday the SEC rolled out its 2021 football schedule live on the SEC Network. After two straight years of particularly brutal schedules, A&M’s upcoming slate is slightly more favorable in a few ways.

Though the Aggies will travel twice in September for neutral site games, A&M doesn’t play a true road game until October 16 at Missouri. The 2021 schedule also spares the Aggies any particularly daunting stretches of back-to-back games against elite opponents or prolonged road trips.

While playing in the SEC West always means a higher degree of schedule difficulty, A&M avoids SEC East powers Georgia and Florida this year, instead drawing Missouri and South Carolina in cross-divisional games.

After opening with three straight non-conference games, including a September 11 trip to Denver to face Colorado, the Aggies will begin SEC play against Arkansas on September 25. That game returns to AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the 2021 season.

Jimbo Fisher will attempt to lead A&M past former mentor Nick Saban and Alabama at Kyle Field on October 9.

A&M then hosts Mississippi State on October 2 and defending national champion Alabama on October 9 at Kyle Field.

A road trip to Missouri on October 16 will be followed by an October 23 home matchup with South Carolina, who A&M has beaten seven years in a row. 

The Aggies have an open date on October 30.

The final stretch starts with a November 6 home date with Auburn, who will be in its first season under new head coach Bryan Harsin. A&M will travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss on November 13.

The Aggies will close the regular season with a November 20 non-conference game against Prairie View A&M followed by a trip to Baton Rouge to face LSU on November 27.

The rest of the SEC schedule includes a number of marquee games, including a few big opening weekend contests. Alabama will host Miami, Georgia will take on Clemson in Athens and LSU will visit UCLA on September 4.

Arkansas will renew an old Southwest Conference rivalry against Texas in Fayetteville on September 11.

Week three features the season’s first big SEC contest as Alabama trips to Florida in a rematch of the 2020 SEC title game. Auburn also visits Penn State, who has lost five straight to SEC opponents.

Tennessee, led by new head coach Josh Heupel, will visit Florida in week four.

Week five includes Ole Miss traveling to Alabama, Kentucky hosting Florida and Auburn visiting LSU.

Alabama’s trip to Kyle Field promises to be a week six headliner, while Georgia will visit Auburn, Kentucky will host LSU and Arkansas travels to Ole Miss.

In week seven, Florida will head to Death Valley to take on LSU, Georgia will host Kentucky, Ole Miss will travel to Tennessee, Mississippi State will host Alabama and Auburn will visit Arkansas, where the officials promise to absorb part of the spotlight.

Week nine will feature Auburn hosting the Rebels and Georgia visiting Florida.

Week ten offers an intriguing non-conference game as Hugh Freeze brings Liberty to Oxford to face Ole Miss, where Freeze once coached before resigning amid a 2017 scandal.

LSU will host Arkansas in week eleven, while Mississippi State travels to Auburn and Tennessee hosts Florida.

In a week where most SEC squads are fitting in one last non-conference opponent, week twelve includes Arkansas traveling to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama, Missouri hosting Florida and Auburn tripping to South Carolina.

The final week of the regular season is a big one for both SEC and non-conference rivalries. In addition to A&M’s trip to Baton Rouge, Auburn will host Alabama in the Iron Bowl, Ole Miss will head to Starkville for the Egg Bowl, Florida will host in-state rival Florida State and Georgia will face Georgia Tech on the road.

I would like to switch auburn and bama (timing-wise), but this is not a bad schedule.

Why can't we get the Alabama schools on the same kind of schedule as the Mississippi schools?
One game at home and the other game away instead of both at home one year and both away the next year.

LSU, Arkansas, and Missipppi State all get one home game and one road game against the Alabama schools ever year. Ole Miss actually has the same setup as us, just in different years. Ole Miss used to host Alabama in odd years, but they played at Tuscaloosa in two consecutive years in 2012 and 2013. Since 2013, Ole Miss has played both Alabama and Auburn on the road in odd years (2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019) and both of those games at home in even years (2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020). In odd years, we get both Alabama schools at home, and in even years, we play both of them on the road.

I'd rather have Bama and LSU at home althernatjnv years. We should surpass Auburn in the pecking order
