2021 Miami (FL) running back Amari Daniels commits to Texas A&M
From the beginning of the 2021 cycle, Miami (FL) Central running back Amari Daniels has been high on Texas A&M’s radar. In turn, Daniels has held the Aggies in high regard. Now the interest has turned into a commitment as the 5-9, 195-pound playmaker announced his college choice.
Daniels' relationship with Jimbo Fisher goes back to Fisher’s days at Florida State, but Daniels has also established bonds with several coaches on the Texas A&M staff.
“Me and A&M have always had a good relationship,” Daniels told TexAgs in September. “Me and Jimbo have always been good, and the resume is good for the Miami Central pipeline (Devonta Freeman and Dalvin Cook) with coach Jimbo. He keeps in touch. I’ve been in touch with a few other coaches. I keep in touch with coach Craig and coach Coley and coach Robinson. All of those guys are good in South Florida, so we keep in touch a lot.”
Those relationships helped keep Texas A&M among Daniels’ top programs. In February, Daniels named Texas A&M to a top-four along with Georgia, Penn State and Nebraska. As the process progressed, Miami made a push into his top schools, and Nebraska fell by the wayside. Then in October, he announced a top two of Texas A&M and Georgia.
Relationships played a key role, but there were several reasons why Daniels kept a watchful eye on the Aggies.
“The system and how the system fits for me,” Daniels told TexAgs in September. “And, I can trust Jimbo and how he’ll use me in the running game and the passing game and prepare me for the next level.
“As far as A&M, it’s the 12th Man. They have an amazing fan base. The alumni take care of the athletes. I like what they do for the athletes. If there’s anything that’s needed, like, if they need a whole new football field, they would get it done the next day probably. I’ve seen it with my own eyes how they support their athletes.”
Daniels is the 17th commitment of the 2021 Texas A&M class, and he is the first running back in the class. He plans to enroll at Texas A&M in January.
