Texas A&M Football

Around Aggieland (10/9)

October 9, 2020

During Friday's edition of TexAgs Radio, the fish bowl's own Richard Zane joined to share updates from the latest in Aggie Athletics with updates from football, soccer, golf, women's hoops, baseball and an update on our Aggies in professional sports.

Football (1-1)
This week’s game with No. 4 Florida is still scheduled for an 11 a.m. kickoff on ESPN. There was some talk that the SEC might move some kickoff times around because of Hurricane Delta, which is expected to make landfall later today, but so far (and it seems this will remain the case), no other SEC game times will be changed (LSU-Missouri was relocated from Baton Rouge to Columbia).

Soccer (1-1)
Texas A&M soccer finally returns to Ellis Field this Sunday as G Guerrieri’s Texas Aggies play host to the No. 15 Florida Gators in their 2020 home opener. A&M is looking to bounce back from a 1-2 loss at Arkansas last Sunday.

The match begins at 1:00 p.m. at Ellis Field and can be found on the SEC Network.

  • Texas A&M’s current ranking (United Soccer Coaches Poll): No. 11

Ahead of the match, G Guerrieri, Jimena Lopez and Barbara Olivieri spoke to the media.

This week (Monday-Wednesday), both Texas A&M men’s & women’s golf competed in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational at Blessings Golf Club in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

  • Men’s: Tied for fifth as a team with Vanderbilt at 18-over. Alabama won the tournament at 4-over.
    • Individually, Dan Erickson (senior from Whittier, California) tied for second place, finishing the three rounds at four-under.
  • Women’s: Tied for 11th as a team with Tennessee at 60-over. Arkansas won the tournament at even par.
    • Top performer: Amber Park (senior from Allen, Texas) finished tied for 28th.

The Aggies are projected to finish 4th in the Southeastern Conference, according to the league’s coaches. Kentucky, Florida and Missouri were picked to finish ahead of Texas A&M.

Camille Conner was selected to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team. The senior setter from Katy, Texas, currently ranks sixth all-time in program history for assists with 3,276.

Texas A&M volleyball begins their season next weekend (October 17) with a pair of matches against the LSU Tigers. Saturday, October 17, at 1:00, and Sunday, October 18, at 3:00. Both matches will be played at Reed Arena.

Women’s Basketball
Lindy’s Magazine released their preseason Top 25 ranking this week, and Gary Blair’s Aggies came in at No. 13. Five Southeastern Conference squads are ranked by Lindy’s.

Lindy’s Magazine also named N’dea Jones (senior from Lawrenceville, Georgia) a third-team All-American. Jones led the SEC in rebounds (351) and rebounds per game (11.7) last season and was fourth nationally in boards.

The Texas A&M women’s basketball schedule has not yet been released. The NCAA announced a November 25 start date for college hoops this year, and Ross Bjork said on TexAgs Radio earlier this week that SEC play will begin on time for the women’s side.

Fall workouts are still going strong at the Corner of Bush & Olsen. There’s not really much to report here other than the fact that Rob Childress and a trio of players spoke to the media via Zoom earlier this week, which you can check out now on
