2021 Katy TE Fernando Garza commits to Texas A&M

Jimbo Fisher and Company have tapped into one of the most heralded and decorated high school programs in America for their latest verbal commitment. Not long after receiving an offer from new tight end coach James Coley, Katy standout Fernando Garza‍ made the decision to give his verbal pledge to the Maroon & White and move the 2021 class counter to eight in number.

The 6-5, 245 pounder is the type of in-line tight end that provides utility for the current version of the Aggie offense. He’s exceptionally physical at the point of attack and only stands to get better as a blocker in terms of his strength and technique, based on his measurables.

At Katy, Garza is an integral part of one of the state’s best pro-style, rushing offenses. Having a kid with his skillset at the end of the line of scrimmage helps the Tigers in terms of leverage and power within their running game.

While he had already garnered several Power 5 offers based on his junior tape, Texas A&M’s pursuit began in earnest shortly after James Coley’s arrival in College Station. Garza was one of the premier performers in the early camp circuit before all the cancellations took place due to the coronavirus pandemic. You can view his junior highlight tape below.

The emergence of the tight end position since Jimbo Fisher arrived in College Station has been one of the more pleasant talking points for A&M fans everywhere. Garza joins previous signees Jace Sternberger, Jalen Wydermyer, Baylor Cupp and Blake Smith at the position under the Aggie head man and becomes the third offensive skill position player in the class of 2021, joining Eli Stowers‍ (QB, Denton Guyer) and Shadrach Banks‍ (WR, North Shore). He ultimately chose Texas A&M over offers from Michigan State, Pitt, Virginia Tech, Colorado, UCF and many more.

Fernando is also a standout on the baseball diamond, and he is still very much considering being a dual-sport competitor as part of the Aggie baseball team upon his arrival on campus. As a right-handed pitching prospect, he has received attention from Oklahoma State and LSU.
