I thought Riley should have been credited with a hit in the 6th inning on the ball she hit deep in the hole between first and second. Good job running the bases by Taudrea in the third. She saw Kelbi's hit going in the gap in right-center and flew around the bases to score from first. Jo should have kept her in the lineup since she was pinch-hit for twice afterwards and both pinch-hitters struck out. Good photo of Haley tagging the runner out at home in the Bryan Eagle today; she tagged her on the face-mask. Great weekend by Riley in the field. Really impressed with the way she handles the relay at second on double play attempts since she played third base for 3.5 years.
Kelbi Fortenberry's three hit night leads Aggies to 4-1 victory over Arkansas
Texas A&M softball (27-22, 5-16 SEC) clinched their first SEC series win this season, winning game three of their series against No. 18 Arkansas.
Both of the teams’ offense started off slow. Texas A&M was the first to score, plating two runs in the bottom of the third after a double from Kelbi Fortenberry plated Blake-Ann Frisch and Taudrea Sinnie, who singled and walked respectively.
“She likes to get ahead of the hitter, so I just didn’t want her to have the opportunity to throw her change-up that’s really been affecting hitters this past year,” Fortenberry said regarding her approach against Arkansas’ starting pitcher Mary Haff.
Aggie starter Kendall Potts maintained composure throughout the game and remained in the game going into the final frame. After Potts issued walks to Arkansas’ Aly Manzo and Katie Warrick and gave up a single off the bat of Hannah McEwen, Payton McBride was called on in relief to close out the seventh.
“I always try to say just trust the pitch, just trust where it’s supposed to go, know where it’s supposed to go because the game doesn’t change,” Kendall Potts said. She finished the game with five strikeouts.
After entering the game, McBride struck out Razorback first baseman Ashley Diaz. Manzo scored the lone Arkansas run after a hit to center, but in the next at-bat, McBride worked a fly ball for the final out of the game to secure the victory for Texas A&M.
The Texas A&M softball team will look to carry their momentum into their three-game series at No. 9 Tennessee that begins on Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
