Also included in the playlist is an interview with Joe Cook of Inside Texas previewing tonight’s matchup.

Key notes from Rob Childress interview

  • It’s easy to find a reason to make it personal anytime we play Texas. They have done a great job of getting back to playing at a high level. There are some games where you have to find different ways to motivate guys, but that shouldn’t be a problem tonight.

  • Texas has a lot of left-handed hitters. We will be starting a left-handed pitcher in Dustin Saenz to counter that. We have to be solid defensively if we want to win this game.

  • I went home Saturday night thinking we lost all three of the guys who got banged up. Hunter Coleman had surgery pretty quickly on his wrist. We initially thought that Bryce Bluam had a broken bone in his foot. We were relieved to find out it was only a deep bruise. Mikey Hoehner is day-to-day as well. We’ll just have to wait and see. I’ve been so impressed with how all three of these kids have been tough and resilient.

  • Blaum obviously didn’t start the game in uniform on Sunday. I looked up in the sixth or seventh inning and saw him in a uniform. He just wants to play and help his team.

  • Missouri had the best collection of pitchers we’ve faced so far, and it showed. We had a little bit of Olsen magic on Friday. Asa Lacy was as good as he’s been all year. It’s hard to lose with him on the mound.

  • Chris Weber got us out of a big-time jam on Sunday. With only one out and the bases loaded he really delivered.  For him to get out the first and second hitter in their lineup made it even more impressive. He got us off the field when it mattered most.

  • I think Mikey Hoehner will be able to catch soon. I’m not sure if we will have him catch right away when he comes back or have him only hit.

  • We have to slow LSU down offensively. They are feeling good about themselves coming off a solid series against Mississippi State. They’ve mixed and matched their rotation this year and it has worked for them. It’s going to be a hostile environment, but we have typically played well down there and I don’t expect anything different this weekend. I’m confident in our lefty pitchers to play well.
