The Maroons took down The Pinstripes, 7-2, at Olsen Field to even the best-of-three Omaha Cup Championship Series at 1-1. Led by Bryce Blaum (2-for-4, 3 RBI) and Will Frizzell (1-for-2, HR), Maroon took the lead with a two-run bottom of the fifth and didn’t look back.

It was a battle of two lefties on the bump as left-handed pitchers John Doxakis and Asa Lacy started on the mound for the Maroon and Pinstripes respectively. Doxakis gave up just three hits and one earned run through four innings and struck out five. Lacy showed excellent command, allowing no earned runs and fanning eight in four innings.

Hunter Coleman was the first to cross the plate in the game after he drew a one-out walk and was driven in by his brother, Ty Coleman, via a bloop single to leftfield.

Bryce Blaum had another productive day at the plate in game 2 of the Omaha Cup.

Allonte Wingate was able to get Maroon on the board in the bottom of the third after two back-to-back errors allowed him to score after he was walked. Maroon took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth after Bryce Miller came into pitch and walked consecutive batters. Kyle Richardson then came to the mound and Bryce Blaum knocked a single over the infield, scoring two.

Cam Blake started the sixth off with a scorching leadoff double down the third base line and scored after Braden Shewmake hit an RBI groundout.

Maroon blew the game open in the bottom of the sixth, scoring four. Aaron Walters reached base with a line drive to right center and Will Frizzell brought him home with a two-run home run into right field. Cole Taylor and Hunter Townsend reached base on walks, and wild pitches allowed both of them to score. Kyle Richardson allowed four earned runs in the inning.

Pitchers Chris Weber, Mason Cole and Kasey Kalich came in in relief for John Doxakis, and the trio allowed one hit and struck out six in three innings pitched.

The two teams will clash again on Friday in a winner-take-all game three at 3:30 p.m. at Olsen Field.
