The Omaha Cup began with the first intrasquad scrimmage, as Team Pinstripes took down Team Maroon, 9-4. Led by strong offensive performances by Jonathan Ducoff (3-3, 3 singles) and Hunter Coleman (2-3, single, home run), the Stripes took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and never looked back.

Dustin Saenz started on the hill for the home team Pinstripes, giving up just a single to Mikey Hoehner in his first inning of work. Saenz went 3.1 innings on the mound, giving up three runs (one of which came in after his departure) on four hits. He added two strikeouts and two walks.

Maroon struck first in the game, scoring a run off of Saenz in the top half of the second inning off a double by Hunter Townsend and an RBI single by Allonte Wingate.

They added another run in the third that was manufactured via an out from Zach DeLoach after a leadoff double by Blaum.

Chandler Jozwiak started on the mound for Maroon and looked sharp right out of the gates, sitting the first three Pinstripe hitters down in order. Jozwiak ran into trouble in the bottom of the second, giving up a leadoff single to Jonathan Ducoff and then a two-run home run to Hunter Coleman. After giving up two more singles, the Maroon infield met at the mound to try to calm down their pitcher. Following the mound visit, Jozwiak retired 8 of the final 10 batters he faced, giving up just one hit.

The Pinstripes took over in the bottom of the fifth as they scored six runs on Maroon.

The Pinstripes did the majority of their offensive damage in the bottom of the fifth inning, hitting all the way through the order off of relief pitcher Chris Weber. Weber was rocked for five hits and six runs in his 2/3 innings of work.

The Pinstripes had six hits in total in their six-run fifth inning, the final hit coming off of relief pitcher Landry Wideman. Wideman finished out the game for Maroon on the rubber, giving up a final run in the bottom of the sixth off of a passed ball.

Reed Spenrath came on in relief for the Pinstripes in the fourth inning but was only able to get one Maroon hitter out, allowing three hits and a run. Kyle Richardson replaced Spenrath to get the final out of the fourth and dominated the Maroon hitters for the 2.1 innings he toed the rubber. Richardson sat down seven of the last eight hitters he faced, allowing just a walk.

Notable offensive performances for the Maroon include Bryce Blaum (2-4, single, double) and Mikey Hoehner (2-4, two singles). Zach DeLoach and Allonte Wingate each tacked on an RBI.

The two teams will square off again on Thursday as the Omaha Cup continues at Olsen Field at 3:30 p.m.
