Jozwiak strikes out eight as Aggies beat Northwestern State, 6-1

The Aggies got their 12th win of the season on Tuesday night as they beat Northwestern State, 6-1.
A&M pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and first basemen Will Frizzell headlined a monster 6th inning for the Ags, driving in three runs with a double.
Chandler Jozwiak got the start on the mound and came out on fire, recording five strikeouts in his first two innings. Jozwiak would go onto record eight strikeouts in his five innings of work.
For the first four innings, the Aggies looked sluggish on offense. In the first inning Zach DeLoach, Michael Helman and Braden Shewmake all struck out in order, and the Ags wouldn’t record their first hit until the fourth inning.
Logan Foster scored on a groundout by Aaron Walters that tied the game in the fifth, but the sixth inning is where the Aggies really started to play ball.
Frizzell said that the team's mentality after such a slow start was "just to stick with the approach, not give up, stay with it and that [hits and runs] would come."
DeLoach started the sixth by getting walked and then advancing to second on a balk by Northwestern State pitcher Jerry Maddox. After that Michael Helman hit a double down the left field line that drove in DeLoach. Shewmake followed that up with a single to center that scored Helman, making the score 3-1
After a pitching change for the Demons, the Ags would continue to lay it on, starting with Shewmake stealing second base. Hunter Coleman would follow that up by reaching first on an error, leaving runners at 1st and 3rd. Foster walked after that, leaving the bases loaded for Will Frizzell.
Frizzell doubled to center, clearing the bases and giving the Aggies a 6-1 lead.
"Winning is hard, it’s a hard thing to do," head coach Rob Childress said. "It’s easy to lose. All you have to do is show up and put on a uniform, and you can get beat. You have to do a lot of things well to win and we certainly did a lot of things well tonight.”
The Aggies would hold onto that lead, but not do much else for the rest of the game. The final score was 6-1.
The Aggies will be back at Blue Bell Park again Wednesday night to take on Northwestern State. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
