Notes from Olin's thoughts on Hansford

  • He has not yet caught a pass in college, I think he got in two games last year and then was hurt. This is one of those guys that’s on this list based on projection instead of production. He’s a talented athlete and we’ve heard great things about him.

  • There’s always going to be the question, are you going to use the tight end? Is he going to be in front of Kalvin Cline? Will he make a difference?

  • A&M projects to run the football more this year so there are several reasons the tight end position will be used more. Number one, you don’t have a big guy like Ricky Seals-Jones that if he’s off the field, they don’t get better. Number two, they project to run the football more so they need a bigger guy. Three, there’s a good chance they’re starting an inexperienced QB so the tight end position becomes the position that’s easiest to find and somewhat of a safety valve.

  • Its going to be interesting to watch, there have been others in the past that were supposed to have been the answer at tight end. That position has almost been a forgotten one, but there always seems to be talk about it.

  • This year with the personnel, the inexperience at QB and the desire to run the ball more often, all the indicators suggest A&M will use the tight end more.

How many years is this "we're using a tight end" story going to last? It's almost like these articles are throwing stuff against the wall rather than informed, useful information.

Come on staff ... you let us hear and read about numbers 30 and 28 but not 29 and today's 27.

The evens are better than nothing ... but come on. I would listen to it live if I were in town, but 1150 doesn't reach too much north of Calvert.

Well mazzone has always used one. We aren't going to use it like a pro style offense but I'd be shocked if we didn't use one. It's more of an hback te type. Starkel targeted the te multiple times in the spring game

I think Hansford was rated #9 OLB in the country coming out of high school. He is 6'2", 230. Why aren't we trying him at LB?
