Notes from Olin's thoughts on Hansford
- He has not yet caught a pass in college, I think he got in two games last year and then was hurt. This is one of those guys that’s on this list based on projection instead of production. He’s a talented athlete and we’ve heard great things about him.
- There’s always going to be the question, are you going to use the tight end? Is he going to be in front of Kalvin Cline? Will he make a difference?
- A&M projects to run the football more this year so there are several reasons the tight end position will be used more. Number one, you don’t have a big guy like Ricky Seals-Jones that if he’s off the field, they don’t get better. Number two, they project to run the football more so they need a bigger guy. Three, there’s a good chance they’re starting an inexperienced QB so the tight end position becomes the position that’s easiest to find and somewhat of a safety valve.
- Its going to be interesting to watch, there have been others in the past that were supposed to have been the answer at tight end. That position has almost been a forgotten one, but there always seems to be talk about it.
- This year with the personnel, the inexperience at QB and the desire to run the ball more often, all the indicators suggest A&M will use the tight end more.
