Texas A&M Softball completes sweep of Oklahoma State, 7-0
Game #38: Texas A&M 7, Oklahoma State 0
No. 6 Texas A&M played solid ball all weekend long. On Sunday, the Aggies did more of the same, defeating the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 7-0, and completing the series sweep.
Oklahoma State struggled at the plate throughout the game. Pitcher Lexi Smith, who had 9 strikeouts on the day, had an outstanding performance. The Cowgirls were unable to get a single run on the board.
However, that wasn’t the case for the team in Maroon and White. With two runners on in the bottom of the first inning, Ashley Walters singled to third base, scoring Tori Vidales, giving the Aggies an early, 1-0 lead.
The Aggie sticks stayed hot. In the bottom of the second inning, Riley Sartain claimed her piece of the action with bases loaded. She singled to left center, scoring both Kaitlyn Alderink and Vidales.
Erica Russell laid down a bunt single in the fifth, and Keeli Milligan followed with a double to left center, scoring another run.
“For our kids to come out this weekend and play a Big 12 team that was on a roll and feeling good about themselves – and then them leaving here understanding they actually played a good ball club – makes me feel good about our kids, our team and where we are,” A&M coach Jo Evans said. “We have the tools and all the pieces in place.”
The Aggies will travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, this coming weekend for a three-game series with the Arkansas Razorbacks.
