Texas A&M clinches first conference series with win over MSU, 3-1
Game #23: Texas A&M 3, Mississippi State 1
Records: Texas A&M 21-2 (2-1), Mississippi State 20-5 (1-2)
WP: Lexi Smith (7-0)
LP: Holly Ward (4-2)
Box Score
After falling to Mississippi State in game one of their first conference series, the 6th-ranked Aggies fought back to win the next two contests and move to 21-2 overall on the year. In a defensive struggle, the Aggies prevailed in game three, defeating Mississippi State, 3-1.
Two walks by Bulldog pitcher Holly Ward in the bottom of the first inning and a single to right field by Riley Sartain loaded the bases up for the Aggie offense with Samantha Show due up. Show popped up to give the Bulldogs their second out of the inning, or so they thought.
Coach Jo Evans noticed that Mississippi State had the incorrect number listed for their pitcher and was able to use that to the Aggies' advantage to give Show another at-bat. She reached on a fielder's choice in an attempt to score Tori Vidales, but Vidales was tagged out at the plate. Kristen Cuyos worked a walk with the bases loaded to score Ashley Walters and give the Ags a 1-0 lead.
The action picked up again in the bottom of the third inning. Sarah Hudek worked a full count and sent one over the left center wall, scoring two more runs. The offensive production ended for the Aggies after Hudek's home run, but the Bulldogs only managed to tack on a run in the top of the fifth inning.
The Aggies will face Memphis on the road this Tuesday at 5:30 p.m before heading into another conference series against Ole Miss in Oxford this upcoming weekend.
