IMG Academy QB Kellen Mond picks Texas A&M over Auburn
As June comes to a close, Texas A&M’s recruiting momentum hits a fever pitch with the Monday night addition of top dual-threat quarterback Kellen Mond.
Mond, who played at San Antonio Reagan before transferring to IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) for his senior season, has had the Aggies and Auburn Tigers at the top of his list since he decommitted from Baylor on June 1st.
He attended Texas A&M’s YESSIR! BBQ in mid-June and spent the weekend in College Station. The visit was his first to Texas A&M since offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone joined the staff. He followed up the visit to Texas A&M with a trip to Auburn, and a decision was expected before the start of July.
Rated a four-star quarterback, the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat and the No. 6 prospect in the Liucci 44, Mond completed 137 of 243 passes for 1,991 yards, 26 touchdowns and rushed for 898 yards and seven touchdowns on 122 carries as a junior at Reagan. He completed 139 of 232 passes for 1,745 yards, and 20 touchdowns, and rushed for 1,142 yards and 14 touchdowns on 165 carries as a sophomore.
The Rattlers finished with a 10-1 record in 2015 and a 12-2 record in 2014, and were undefeated in district play both years.
Mond is the 15th commitment of the Aggies' 2017 recruiting class, joining fellow quarterback Connor Blumrick and IMG teammate Santino Marchiol.
His commitment also gives the Aggies seven commitments for the month of June, making it Texas A&M’s busiest month so far of the 2017 recruiting cycle.
