Softball: No. 11 A&M completes series sweep against Arkansas
The Aggies completed their sweep of the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday with a 9-1 victory. The win was due in large part to a career-high six RBI performance from Ashley Walters.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning, Cali Lanphear drew a walk to push Keeli Milligan across the plate. To make matters worse for the opposing Razorbacks, Walters doubled to right center, scoring all three runners on base and giving the Aggies an early 4-0 lead.
Arkansas scored its only run in the top of the second after Ashley Diaz knocked a home run to left center.
The Aggies earned three more runs in the bottom of the third, extending their lead to 7-1. The scoring barrage in the third started when Walters slammed her fourth home run of the season to left center, plating Lanphear who reached base on a bunt earlier in the frame.
Back-to-back singles from Kristen Cuyos and Samantha Show set things up for Riley Sartain who was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lead-off hitter Keeli Milligan drew a walk after five pitches and plated Cuyos.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Lanphear knocked a double off of the top of the right center before Walters came through with a single to right field, scoring Lanphear from second.
Pinch runner Erica Russell ended the run-rule game after a sac-fly from Cuyos to right field.
Show was fantastic in the circle, allowed just one run on three hits. The stellar start earned the starting pitcher her 18th win of the season.
