Softball: #10 Texas A&M run-rules Texas Tech, 17-3, for the sweep
On Sunday No. 10 Texas A&M completed the sweep against Texas Tech in a high-scoring game for the Aggies.
A&M once again started off hot, putting up seven runs in the first inning.
However, instead of settling for their usual lead, the Aggies took their seven runs and ran with it.
Texas A&M had three players with multiple hits on the day. Cali Lanphear led the way, going 2-2 with a grand slam. She also had five RBI for the game. Keeli Milligan and Tori Vidales also recorded multiple hits for the Aggies.
A&M took the lead early and never looked back, with eight players recording hits. The Aggies were able to capitalize on the rough pitching from the Texas Tech staff. The Raiders allowed six walks on the day, giving A&M opportunities to score — and score the Aggies did.
Cheyene Powell started in the circle for the Red Raiders and pitched fairly well, hitting her spots, but A&M stayed with its approach and didn’t chase balls outside the zone.
The approach for the Aggies forced Texas Tech to go to its bullpen twice, but it wouldn’t matter — the Aggies kept the bats going.
The home run ball has been a friend to A&M all season and it was a friend to the Aggies again. A&M has a total of forty home runs on the year, seven of them being grand slams.
Breanna Dozier got her second home run of the weekend in the final game of the series. Dozier has four home runs on the year and three of them have been grand slams. Lanphear got her sixth home run on the season with a grand slam of her own. Kristen Cuyos also went yard for her tenth home run of the year.
Going into the game she was tied for the most home runs in the SEC.
With hot bats and a comfortable lead, the Aggies were able to keep Texas Tech from making a comeback. Effective pitching from the A&M staff only allowed three runs in the first two innings, then settled in to prevent any more runs. The Aggies had complete control of the game on both sides of the ball, with extra emphasis on their offense.
Texas A&M took all three games from Texas Tech to complete the sweep. The Aggies move to 23-2 on the year and will face Georgia Southern for a mid-week series before starting conference play.
